Hey guys this may have already been asked in a thread but i can't find it. I have the Aem wideband and i keep frying sensors. I have gone through two in a matter of 2 weeks. I have been running a lot of c-16 gas but i know a lot of people on this site run it too. So what i was wondering is where you all have your widebands in on the exhaust, on one of my buddies was telling me it need to be 36 inches away from the turbo? Is that true? Let me know if there is another thread i could look at or if anyone else has had problems like these?

My bung for the wideband is currently about 7-8 inches away from the turbo..

Way too close. I believe the directions that came with the AEM unit state 24" minimum.
Most guys, like me, have the bung welded at the end of the DP, positioned almost straight up, but rotated slightly
towards the inside, so the sensor goes up into the center tunnel.
You will find a rubber knock-out plug right there for easy cable routing.

 

If you have a test pipe and there is a bung on it, wouldn't you use that for your wideband sensor?

 

I just had mine welded on the top (pointing straight up) of my TP. As Mikesevo8 said, there's a rubber knock-out plug where the passengers feet sit. Perfect for running the wire for the WB. Also, a buddy of mine (runs a shop), said that you need to make sure the sensor is angled at least 30 degrees from the horizon. What happens is, moisture can get on the sensor if it's pointing down, and when you start the car the heating element on the O2 sensor has turn burn off that moisture, which can shorten their life dramatically.

Same here, mine is straight up and down approx 28" away from the turbine housing. I have an Innovate and the instructions say at least 24" after the turbo and the sensor should be installed between 9 and 3 O'Clock.

 

Ok sounds like i just need to get a new sensor and move it back.. Kinda what i figured after i looked into it..

Did you fry another sensor Mark? Mine is mounted in the same place as yours and I don't have any problems. Interesting...

Did your downpipe come with a bung for this, or did you have one welded in?

 

I welded one in. i put a plug in that whole and got a new bung for the new location i got that setup yesterday and tonight i am going to test and tune. Hoping for lower 10s

Yeah thats what weird is i have had this in the same location with the factory turbo and tons of leaded gas, never had a problem, but now with the new manif/ turbo/ o2 housin and down pipe i have fried 2. So i moved the location and we will see how it goes tonight.. See ya at the track

i was going to put mine where my front o2 sensor threads into the 02 housing but that doesnt seem to be working to well, is the middle of wher the cat used to be, be ideal?
