bought adapter from best buy does not have any name stamped on it anywhere and cannot find box.i also am not sure it came with a driver disk ether? how do i change the port speed? i read also something about port3 being for modems useally?
Usually, they come with drivers on a CD. It sounds like the serial to USB adaptor you bought may be junk. I read around before I bought mine and people have mixed answers on which ones work and which ones don't. I heard good things about the ones from radioshack. Try to get one with drivers that is compatible with your os, keep the receipt and return it if it doesn't work. Also, if you can get any information about the one you have. Look up the company and find the drivers online, a good company offers them there. USB to serial can be finicky. Good luck.
I have always had problems with USB to serial adapters. I must have tried 3 or 4 different brands and they never connected me to the ECU. I ended up going on ebay and buying an old school sony vaio for $150 that had a serial port. Never had any problems since then.
I believe I use an IOMajic or IOGear can't remember adapter that I purchased from BestBuy. No issues at any time. I believe there is a list on aempower fourms on compatibility and some having issues.
hahah i win
i bought the new serial to usb adapter called gigaware.it is made by radio shack.i installed the drivers and hooked up with key on engine off.i had to change the port on the ams software to the port listed as the gigaware and hit connect. it went right away and has worked flawlessly.highly reccomended.thanks for the help guys.
