If your SparkTech COP includes the CDI box you would just run the All CDI settings in the Coil Dwell wizard. If it doesn't include the CDI box you would probably need to run the Dodge Hemi coil wizard if SparkTech is still using the 300m Hemi style coil then run the same min and max dwell settings posted here. But you should consult with SparkTech as they usually do some pretty extensive testing on their systems and it never hurts for a 2nd opinion.

I noticed some issues when tuning my car during break in that would appear to be a noisy engine. I was beginning to believe it was simply just a loud engine being completely built, Exedy triple plate clutch, build transmission and transfer case. I even ran race gas to 100% rule out any detonation issue with the gas I was running and the noise didn't change, I was bummed thinking it would add difficulty in really tuning this car as I always take a conservative approach and distinguishing knock or engine noise would prove to be nearly impossible. I never ran more than 17lbs of boost during this time and timing/AFR was conservative. I decided to try the settings noted here and my engine noise completely went away, i couldn’t believe it, so I logged pull after pull after pull. I then upped the boost from 17, to 19, then 21, then 23. I figure I must have been having some misfiring issues causing louder engine noise than normal. I know it sounds like this couldn't be true however this is the ONLY thing changed on the car/tune. For the DWell vs. RPM graphing I didn’t touch the first part of it, but where it starts to drop off I increased the graph all the way to the end, somewhat mirroring what AEM provided but with a higher value and removed the small dip. The car is very smooth now, and ready for more boost.

Also in addition to this, I have tuned a friend’s car to 28lbs of boost on pump gas. Now he didn't have any misfiring issues before since he has a HKS DLi2, but the car was smoother all around after the change, even the idle appeared better. We are hopefully going to up the boost a bit more and start working on a race gas tune.

I have to say thanks to GTVEVO for taking the step to research this, and provide a working solution to an ongoing problem. I haven't pushed the boost any higher than 23lbs on my car as I am trying to sell it, but I may do some additional tuning to get the boost a bit higher, especially if I am forced to keep it.
This is the exact issue im having. lately i've been fouling out plugs in days.

GTVEVO,

Thanks for the info.

Thumbs up

Just to update with the thread bump.

I have since tuned my car to 30psi without any ignition amplifier and a plug gap as large as .024 on BPR8ES, though I am currently running a gap of .022 on BR8ES.

The other car I tuned to 28lbs of boost and a HKS DLi, is now running 31lbs on pump gas with .024 plug gap on BR8ES.

Both cars have absolutely no misfiring issues or in my case knock events thanks to these updated Dwell settings.

Again thanks to GTVEVO and everyone else for their input to fix this long standing issue.

On a side note, I just ordered a SparkTech Pro Series COP (thanks Craig!) and look forward to hopefully 40lbs of boost in the near future!

I ran a 10.48 @ 133 with 32psi of boost on the stock coils and settings similar to these without a single misfire so I would say stock coils aren't that bad.

The previous owner of my car reported some ignition issues at higher boost levels while on race gas. I'm in the process of installing a meth kit, and looking to get tuned within a couple of weeks. I may try reverting back to the base settings for a run to get some additional before and after graphs to see what happens.

by applying GTVEVO's settings, my butt dyno can already tell a difference only on 20 lbs.

btw, this is on a PTE6262.

edit: my apologies for the thread necromancy, just felt this is a worthwhile topic.

Hopefully, with this new coil dwell setup it will cure my missing firing issues at high boost.

O'yeah, this is on a Evo 9 w/ Aquamist HSF5, HKS DLI, SC61 turbo

Hell Ya! I can't wait for the weather to clear up so I can see how far I can push them at the track.

Thanks for the reports!

Also thanks Spaceball for being a great source and wingman on this thread.

my buddies car is making over 600whp @ 30psi on c16, gapped @ .022" without issue with the settings from this thread

Once the car starts breaking up or goes flat on power, then we'll being ordering the sparktech COP

here is what we are currently running:

coil dwell @ 35 / dwell max @ 1.25 / dwell min @ 0.10

dwell vs rpm = 90/90/90/90/105/105/105/105/105/105/105 0-8000 rpm
