Cold Start, for cold starting in the cold.

Hello!
It is cold here. Really cold. Like 10 above 0 cold.

Not the best time to set up and tune an EMS, but that's what we got!
I have the car running in MAF mode right now, am going to install the MAP and other sensors soon, but would like to get some input on cold start from some of the more experienced guys....
It seems like the startup .cal coldstart is way too rich, and it does not want to fire easily..... My guess is that they did not have the oportunity to tune the coldstart characteristics in Cali.

Any ideas?

try pulling lowering the start timing and adding some fuel to the start pulse table. that table is zero'd out in the base maps. it helps to have some fuel there, then you can take out some of the start extra and warmup enrichment. i have found that the evo will crank and idle running extremely rich. we had an issue with a vac line on the map sensor and it was running around 8:1 afr at idle. most of the time cars are happier running rich during warmup.

Once you get your car to start well when it's warm (using the crank table) then you need to play with the coolant compensation (warm up) table. If it's really cold out don't be suprised that you'll need 12ms or more of of inj. pulse-width to start up. The fuel just wants to stick to the manifold and not stay atomized. Our evo needed about 18ms of pulse-width to start in -5 deg weather. Once you see the Stat-sync go ON the car should start right up if done correctly
