O2 sensors with AEM and AEM serial gauge
I am putting my car back together after a large build. I am using an AEM EMS Ver.1 with a speed density setup, I have a AEM serial gauge. My questions is can I use the serial gauge to monitor the AFR's? And what should be the setup of my O2 sensors? Can I hook a wideband O2 to the AEM and view the correct wideband AFR's on the AEM serial gauge? Also what O2 sensors should I have, currently my exhaust setup contains 3 bungs two on the test pipe and 1 above the downpipe. Can I plug one of the bungs or do I need all 3. And from front to back what should the sensors be i.e. wide, narrow, wide or if I can plug one would it be wide, plug, wide or wide, plug, narrow? I want a wideband setup and I want to make sure I am not throwing a CEL.
Do you have a 1313 or a 1313U EMS? If it's a 1313U, a subharness comes with the EMS that allows you to connect a UEGO sensor directly into the EMS. Then, you can use the serial gauge to display the air/fuel ratio.
If you don't have a 1313U, get something like a 30-2310 AEM Inline UEGO controller, which is just a wideband controller and no gauge. Then, you can use the serial gauge to display air/fuel ratio and any other data you'd like.
With the AEM EMS, you only need a single wideband UEGO sensor (no narrowband sensor is used with a standalone EMS).

Alright well thanks for the input, I have decided to just add the regular narrowband to the rear also in the event I ever need to switch from the AEM to the stock ECU. Then just plug the third bung. Thanks
You don't want to leave the narrow band connected with the AEM in place. It won't damage the AEM, but the 02 will die pretty fast without a heater. Most standalones (below 3k) don't offer heater control and hence why they don't support narrowband sensors. The external wideband controller will have its own heater circuit.
