Aem ems v1 dual map setting question
Aem ems v1 dual map setting question
Hi, i just wanted to know if anyone set their car on dual map ( running e85 & pump gas) on their aem ems v1 on their evo 8?
I have a evo 8 with a pte 6266 jb with a fully built 2.4L motor and planning to run my car with AEM ems v1 ecu. Where i live have one gas station that sells e85 but when i go out of town, im afraid some city doesnt have e85 gas station so i will need to used pump gas. Im changing to a new tuner and he told me that e85 & pump gas is not possible to tune it like that for setting a dual map.
I wanted to run high boost on e85 and low boost on pump gas.
Can anyone tell me if this dual map is possible or impossible????
Thanks

You can run different maps. But you need your laptop with you all the time to change them from one to the other. But when you switch over to e85 you have to make sure that all of the 93 Oct is out your tank and lines. That is what I was told.
I do believe you can run a switch and make it run off of the Nitrous Maps for fuel and ignition timing. So for example when switch is off runs off the normal maps for pump gas and when switch is on it runs off Nitrous map for e85. I have never done this but I have heard of people doing it this way

How often do you switch fuels?
If your primary fuel is e85, you can tune your whole car on that(startup and everything), then use the nitrous map for your pump gas. Then you flip the switch and boom you are on pump gas map sort of. Then you drive home to your laptop and switch to pump gas map, while you stay out of the boost and drive very normal. Until you switch to you fully tuned pump gas map.
The biggest problem with the dual map stuff is you have very different AFR targets for both fuels, and very different boost targets, the V1 does not give you any ability to control those when changing fuels.
AEM also has the infinity out which has full flex fuel support and is pretty bad ***.

Not sure where you got your info but AEM is no longer doing any development on the Series 1 units. They stopped a few years back. The last major release was for the Series 2 and included the flex fuel support.
So the only way to have full flex fuel support is with a Series 2 or an Infinity. Anything other than those two would require that you use the Nitrous map, but you will have no start up adjustments between the fuels.

^^ can be done..run it on the NOS map..Install a switch to switch map.
I have a couple of fren running on Aem V1.
We tune it on pump gas & vp c16 (2 times tuning)... while we race we just switch the map on c16. No need laptop..just a switch.

silentkiller I believe the reason it works for you is because you are still using "gasoline" for pump gas and C16 so the start up calibrations are the same. E85 requires completely different calibrations on start up so the start up calibrations between the pump gas and E85 are completely different.
