4G93 Rebuild

Hey all, I am new to this forum and am also new to mitsubishi ownership :P

I own a lancer GSR and am contemplating an engine rebuild on the 4G93 engine.

Can anyone out there offer any advice on how much this will cost? I am not aiming to go max power, just be able to build a motor that can take a slight increase in boost to around 14 to 15 psi.

Also what would a gearbox rebuild be worth, i am thinking to do all these sorts of things when the engine is out of the car to save money.

One more question, will the standard turbo be able to produce that much boost? or should i opt for the larger unit from a Galant or EVO? To rebuild one of these turbos am i looking at around $500??

Thanks everyone i would really appreciate some assistance.

Regards
Mimmo

I am in Western Australia, in Perth.

Is it cheaper to do this over east? as in cost of parts?

Thanks.

Btw, in a previous post you spoke of a guy in busselton selling a worked GSR, like really worked. Do you happen to know if it has an evo 3 front and stock rear spoiler??

If so i think i know that car :P

Cheers for the help

Yeah that car was owned by a guy in perth before, it used to have the plates WRX_ETA.

Do you have a $$ value though of an engine rebuild?? just a rought estimate atm, cos i belive i will have another 20 to 25000ks on this engine......depending on how i drive it :P

You wouldnt happen to have a spare VR4 Intecooler lying around would you :P, I noticed you were selling a GSR intercooler in another post.

Cool thanks for that.

Any opinions on Race Torque in Osborne Park?, i think they are down the road from RPW, and have had some pretty interesting cars in the car park, including an awsome Peugeot 205 T16, the old Group B rally Weapon, it was an impressive sight :P

cheers

Mate what about getting a VR4 half cut. I have a mate who has just done the conversion to his GSR and I can tell you it is a weapon of a machine. In the end it is the better option, as you will have everything there. I also feel the price will be along the same lines as a full rebuild so might be anither option.

What about insurance after that???

That would prolly have to be past over the pits, get permits etc.

With a high insurance bill already, i dont think i would appreciate an increase in the premium

you don't need to rebuild to run 14psi

my baby happily runs 16psi all day every day (std turbo, std motor)

125kw at all four

do u NEED to rebuild?

personally I wouldn't bother with the 2L conversion unless I was going to go absolutely nuts with it.

Toby's GSR (WRXETA) cost him shyte loads as it's one of only an elite few 4G93's in the 11s..

Talk to Jamie on GSR_EVO group, he's a fellow Perth 2L GSR-er
