Question Evo reliability vs STi reliability???

Hi Aussies-

You may or may not know that the evo 8 is the first evo we have had to hit our shores.

We also have the STi for the first time ever.

As a general car company, Mitsubishi has had questionable (at best) reliability. In the US most think of Honda and Toyota as being amongst the best. Some say Subaru is up there too. But not many would say DSM would rank high as a manufacturer.

My Question...
How would you judge the EVOs of the past as compared to the STi's of the past in terms of quality and reliability?

Thanks,
Steve

Yes I will agree that Mitsubishi has had a few managerial issues in the past (mainly due to with-holding information about faults). But the cars are very good in comparison to other manufactures. Mitsubishi prides itself on the Evolution models and there is only a handful of problems which have come up. As for the Subaru Vs Mitsubishi debate that is something you will have to decide yourself. Subaru do make some nice cars and from what I have experienced their service is up there with the best also. Mitsubishi as far as the Evolution go have it over the Sti, yes the interior may not be of a higher standard but the car itself is. It is all about where you want to settle, there is nothing wrong with either machine but they both have their pros and cons and in the end it is these you should look at. I hope I have helped.

I did a poll on evo reliability and I think you'll be very happy looking at it. Search under "no problems with evo". personally love my car and its reliability but I also won't bash on the sti (even though in my oppinion I would rather have a clutch go out than detonation)

but i would prefer a evo just coz its unique. the sti is just a ausom car that can take a **** of a thrashing.

Vespa I don’t mean to shoot you down there, but from my experience I have found the Evolution far more reliable that the WRX STI. Please feel free to try to prove me wrong, but I think you will find that as far as reliability is concerned, the Mitsubishi has it all over the Subaru.

Also Vespa, I would have given you a little more credit if you had responded in a more professional manner. See below for your corrected post so you can see what I mean (this is without changing your monosyllabic vocabulary).

VESPA'S CORRECTED RESPONSE: I would say that the Subaru is the better choice for reliability, but I would prefer an Evolution just because it’s unique. The STI is just an awesome car that can take a considerable thrashing.

I know my grammar may not always be perfect but please what a joke.

sorry bout that i will try write proper from now on.
any how i will be honest, i was making that assumption on the wrx to gsr comparason, in all my days i have seen the wrx's out live the gsr's of the world and we all know that almost all wrx's have had a hard life. with the 4g63 the only experiance i have had with them was my uncles evo 3 and my dads vr4.The evo 3 was a real mess constantly in the workshop, the vr4 on the other had was a great car only problem was the timing belt snaped and bent the valves(*spelling).

Uh, FHI isn't owned by GM...they are strategic partners...

Subaru is far better in the reliability realm...far better...less the tranny!

From the sounds of it, Evo's tend to fall apart...but I still want one!

Yep, Subi's drive train can't handle hp... everywhere i read bout the drag wRX's, they always say, a/m gearbox, as i broke the first couple.. but you dont hear that from Evo drivers.. Rob Barac im pretty sure is still running his original 'box.. correct me if im wrong, but thats copped a hammering !
