Go single turbo. Keep away from twin for just a lancer engine.

How much of a power increase is he looking for?
Should look at doing a complete evo/gsr engine swap. Turn out to be cheaper, but you do lose the "new" engine.

But for general ideas/prices, check out RPW.
http://www.rpw.com.au/

Hope this helps....and, anyone, correct me if needed.
Cheers.

EC.

I own a 2000 Lancer myself and I found out that unfortunatly the gsr engines that came from a cc lancer made here in Australia don't fit as the gearboxs are on the opposite sides of the engine bay. However evo 4/5/6 engine swaps can be done but are not cheap. I have heard they can cost up to $12,000. Where in Australia are you?
I agree with EC on contacting www.rpw.com.au they have info that will help. If you live in Sydney then contact BD4s on (02) 9879 3322
www.bd4s.com.au. They have done an evo4 engine swap before. They are not cheap but with the work you want done you would want the best and not a cheap rushed job.
I'm going for a bolt on turbo as I can't afford the engine swap. Maybe later I'll buy a real evo.
Cheers

geeze...never knew it was THAT expensive. Damn, I was planning on doing the evo4 swap, but that's just out of my credit card reach
I guess you've also gotta look at the other conversions/upgrades that need doing....brakes, AWD to FrWD, etc.

Ever heard about swapping over a Magna V6 engine?
Apparently the mount pattern is the same.
Imagine the 163kW V6 engine in there
Could be wrong...never looked into it...

I think I'll be sticking with my original plan - bolt ons....

Hmmm, any further update on that V6 Magna engine bolting in ??

I suppose that this conversion would not really be a cheap alternative as the brakes, gearbox and suspension would all need to be upgradied to Magan Specs as well (if they fit) meaning great expense.

Standard Lancers will not cope with doubling the power output just like that.

Your right about the conversion. I rang a couples of places and said that its a waste of time. I think a bolt on turbo kit is still the best way. You'll only be able to run 12psi boost max on a stock engine, any more requires internal mods. I guess its a question on how far you want to go.

I think you will find that the RPW turbo kit recommends only 5psi of boost on the standard engine before you have to start tinkering on it.

Anymore and you need to decompress the engine and run a front mount intercooler.

Even so, if you haven't blown the gearbox and clutch, you would have to upgrade anyway.

I'm looking towards the 5psi kit, that will do and will be fun.

I'm looking at getting the stage two kit of RPW and from what they told me I'll be ok on 10psi with an intercooler/ decompression plate. Above 12psi requires work on the conrods and pistons. With the gearbox well, if you drive hard all the time its gotta go. Best to be nice to the baby.

Best of luck to you, i'd love to see the car before and after to compare the difference.

Do you know the costs of the kits - Stage 1 and 2 ??

RPW price list

RPW sent me a price list on all their products...

TURBO:
not really sure what else is included in this "basic kit" but this is exactly as it is listed:
Turbo Charger Kit - basic kit incl turbo T25, piping & manifold Prices from $5,000.00

But then again, I guess there would be more basic specific bolt-ons - so you can add a bit at a time, so as not to fork out the whole 5g's straight up.

If any of you want a copy of this price list then post up your e-mail address....and I'll e-mail it to ya as soon as I can

Has anybody had the turbo kit from RPW fitted to their car? If so how does the car perform? Any problems with the engine?

Hey before you go and spend all your hard earned cash. Please help yourself and do some research, and when you think you have finished start again, this is how you you find the best information. I also own a CE lancer and know that in Japan they made a GSR version with th gearbox on the correct side for our car, so that is on option. Onother is Mivec which is a 130kw engine which just bolts in, very easy to do. There is a 2ltr version of the Mivec from the FTO which can fit but in the long run the cost of that engine install would out way the benifits. Evolution engines yet hard to come by are the ultimate purchase, but the cheaper VR4 varient has comparable power to the EVO engine. Please email me at graemekhughes@hotmail.com
