What the hell is wrong?
What the hell is wrong?
Alright, I know I've been treating my car to a lot of crap over the past few days since I got my P's... but nothing overly major, I mean I'm not spinning the wheels a lot. Ok, so once or twice while chucking a U turn I've swung out the back end while turning fast and it had a small screech (no more than like 1 second) and a few times taking off at lights smell yips from the tyres.
Anyway... now I've found in the mornings when I am heading off to Uni, which this morning was about 7am, The engine has no power at all...
Just sitting on the lawn I start it up in neutral to see if its gunna stall like the day before....
It starts shaking a bit, so I put my foot down a few cm....
Nothing. Still shaking more and more... I put my foot halfway down... Nothing. It stalls! With my foot-to-the-floor in neutral none the less!
I start it up again, still in Neutral... and put my foot halfway down, Idling for about 3 seconds... then the engine kicks in and roars to 5000 or so revs. Then idles breifly again, then kicks in after another second. I hold it at 4000 or so for a few seconds to try and warm it up or something.
I back out into the street and drive to the top of it, with some very uneven power spikes and general jerkiness...
After a minute it goes back to normal (when the engine has warmed?)
What do you think the problem could be?? Fuel? Engine? Carby? WHAT? Please I need help! Either way I'm raising my idle a little bit tomorrow morning, its ****ting me how rough its running.

Hmmmm, sounds very similar.... Could it also be Fuel evaporating from my fuel lines overnight? Temp only got down to like.. 20 degree's minimum.
Also, one more problem I'm having... There is a weird smell coming from my front right wheel, even when I'm not driving hard. It's not my Brake Pads, my Discs, or the Tyre itself... a friend and I took off the wheel and checked everthing out... the smell seems to come from the wheel itself though.
Like the inner part....
When I bought the car the dodgy used car guy chucked on these wheel caps to make them look a bit better. Apparently "All the young people want it like this." I was tempted to ask if he could chuck on a nice set of rims and lower it a bit. But it would colst about $2000 for the set a saw the other day *drools*
Sorry, went off track, as usual... The wheel cap things were rubbing on the rubber when I first got the car and making a really loud noise at low speeds, so on instruction from my ex-driving instructor I ripped them all off and ran a quick spray of WD-40 round the edges where it touched the rubber.
Could that be the cause of the smell? Its not Brake smell.... after driving with one of my friends I know that smell all too well, and its not rubber smell. Any ideas?

Ahhh no i doubt that fuel would be just evaporating from your fuel lines unless u got a hole somplace, it could also be your fuel pump that mite be a bit dodgy.
As for the funny smell hehe well if its comming out of the wheel and it bothers u so much just get a new set of tires. But i seriously would not put wd40 on your rubber, unless u wanna go surfing in the rain (makes your tyres slippery in wet).
Use that armoguard tyre protection thingy cream...

if the tyres are rubbing on the guards, get them lipped, or the person who put them rims on your car may have put the wrong offset ( RWD offset will rub on the guards on a FWD car)..
Are they like 13 or 14 inch Steelies under the hubcaps ?

He does not have aftermarket rims, he has regular wheels with hub caps, from what I read. The WD40 was used to stop the noise the hubcaps were making when touching the tyre (as they can do). From what you are telling us I think a little more self control might help you keep the car and your life a little longer. How long sice the car has had a good service. I advise you go through that and check everything one by one. Do it yourself and you might learn a little more about your car.

Auto choke? I have a choke?
First off I didnt put WD40 on the outer wheels, lol... imagine the drifts... and the well.. death.
Just a slight line where the hub caps touched the tyre.
Tyres rubbing on my guards? would stockies do that? standard rims, dunno what tyres... all I know is they are almost due for replacement. I didnt buy the car with much meat on them, so I dont really care about giving them hell for the short time until I get new ones. Lets just say, today was pretty wet out.
So whats this about auto choke? tuning it, possible DIY with a car-know-how friend?
