Evo Viii Ride!!!
Evo Viii Ride!!!
Hey guys,
Recently i went over to NZ. And damn are cars cheap or what over there! This being because of cheap japanese imports. Evo's are damn cheap... u see chix at the young age of 17 driving genuine evo 3's everywhere. Plus their legal ride height is about half of what we're allowed in OZ. Well in QLD anyway.
Anywayz whilst we were over there we saw numerous evo vIII's. The first time i saw one. A lady in her 40-50's hopped out and i almost cried. I couldn't believe that a car with such potential was driven around like a shopping trolley!!!
Well one day i was washing me dad's integra at the carwash and there was an evo vIII parked outside a chinese takeaway shop. i went in and had a chat with the owner of the evo. I said that we hadn't gotten evo vIII's in OZ just yet. He laughed and offered to take me for a spin. It was like being in heaven. This thing could fly and fly it did!!!. Pulling into the shell servo down the road... he topped her up and offered me a test run. At that instant i thought he was only jokin... but in fact he was serious. What a beast it was to drive. The handling is gracefully and much of a sturdy car.
Can't wait till it comes to OZ. I miss seeing them on the roads. When exactly is OZ getting them in. I heard they were only goin to distribute 100 without OZ. If anybody misses out why don't u take a short 3hour trip to NZ and purchase one! I reckon u'd get it cheaper to because of the exchange rate. Only prob is the importing of the car. It would be considered as a so called (luxury) car. I looked into it and the OZ government has quite a steep price for such services on tax and frieght etc...
Anywayz guys lets get these evo VIII's here asap!

Great to hear that the cars are what they are made up to be. Having a drive sounds quite amazing in itself considering the circumstances.
regarding prices the EVO VIII in NZ is $74,500 NZD, which equates to $64,467 AUD. This is almost the exact price that the EVO VIII in oz will be when they arrive.
There are only 93 cars being brought in for consumption. This falls with-in the low import scheme system. I have been on the phone to Mitsubishi every week since my order in Jan and as of this week (4th May) still no dates. The last I heard was roughly late June to July.
This would only work on a few levels unfortunately. The price of a new car will be about the same but end up being more expensive once you get the car to Oz. Getting a second hand one may be the only way to get it cheaper. There is a catch though - which is the same as bringing cars in from the UK.
This is that to bring a car in Oz the owner must be the legitimate owner of the car on the original country of purchase and must own the car for at least 12 months.
Basically you will have to live there and drive the car in NZ for a year before brining the car in. One way around it is getting someone who owns the car in NZ (and has for 12 months) to want to bring the car into Aus and then you buy it off them once here.
Otherwise wait until the second lot of EVOs into Aus next year (2005). Providing that this run works out well for them.

Dad's had his order (and deposit) in since November last year (2003) so it has been very close 6 months. Last I heard (about a week ago) was a late May early June release ( read early December 2006
) but for late May the cars would have to be at least in Australia, probably on their way to dealers, and I think they would be able to show brochures/details/even the car to people with orders. As none of this has happened I am thinking it will be a while yet. Hopefully I am wrong. Dad's starting to think a second hand Makinen or something is looking a good buy.

There is also another way of importing from NZ. But it's quite slim. The possibility of someone owning it over there. Whilst you are still in OZ. The trick around it is to say that your importing it from NZ 6months ahead so it's roadworthy eg. tyre changes etc....
For example. My dad lives in NZ. He could buy the car for me and then say he was moving to OZ in 6months time. Meanwhile he can import the car 6 months ahead. So when he does supposedly arrive into australia the car is ready for him! That's what i was told by an importing company here on the Gold Coast. Wether or not it's possible i don't know.
Another way is the damaged Vehicle way. Here you may have a car from overseas but it falsely damaged. What i mean by that is if you purchase the car without a headlight (making it unroadworthy and therefore comes under damaged!) Plus importing the car becomes cheaper as it could also be considered as a car for spare parts. But hey what 's a headlight to be fixed as opposed to the total price value?

I was told by Northshore Mitsubishi in Sydney that delivery was expected to be early June - and that was only a week ago.
The later it is, the happier I am. I have to sell a BMW yet!
