Which Lancer?
Hi,
I'm hoping to buy my first car soon (I have around $8000 to throw around, including rego/insurance/stereo etc.) and I've found two Lancers which are interesting
1. '95 GL, 17in rims, sport exhuast, personalised plates, set up for a subs/amp and has speakers/head unit installed, no power steering, immobilser for $6000
2. '95 GLXI stock for $8300
My problem is that I'm totally in love wit the "New" lancer shape, the boxy rear type and the GL has a more rounded body to it, so if I got the GL i'd be wishin I had the new shape
However, I dunno if the extra 2300 is worth it just to get a stock car. If anyone could help me on what they would do it'd be greatly appreciated. FYI I'm 19 and work full time.
Also, if I bought the GL what would be the first step I should take in addin some performance upgrades? Body kits? Is it possible to install a power steering system?
Thanks for your help,
Michael
PS If I make no sense its cause I'm drunk at the moment

Power steering will cost approx $2000 to install (last time I checked).
Also, it's better to have something like that already stock - less chance of it failing.
It really depends on your preference - test drive a car with ps and without. BIG difference!
Taking that into consideration - and also the fact that the GLXi has the bigger 1.8L engine - I'd personally go for the stock GLXi.
You can always slowly do up the car - you appreciate the car more and it's alot of fun! Nowadays, stereo gear, body-kits and rims are pretty cheap to come by, especially second hand.
For a general idea on what/how to upgrade check out the rpw website. Good site.

I know it's not for the 95 CC Lancer, but you get the general idea.

couldn't have said it better, or even that well probably. I would say you should test em both tho, I personally loved my BMW 320i without power steering, somewhat tough to park but at like 55mph or above it was a blast on the highway
I'd love to get the GLXi but at the moment its out of my price range, especially cause I have to get insurance/rego etc. I think I'll go with the GL, can always save up and get the GLXi later, or hopefully an MR. Anyone know any body kits that would go well with a GL?
Get a Evo 3 bodykit.

Oh, and a bodykit will probably make your insurance even more.
MR, GLXi as your next car. You not save up for an EVO
Go to Just Car Insurance for an insurance quote.

The CC Lancer is a very interesting car. The base GL is a good car and because of its light weight and steering setup it is unlikely you will ever need power steering. The CC lancer is a very responsive car, it lets you know exactly what it wants, through the feel and sound. The GL has a 1.5Ltr engine with 65kw standard, and is a carbie. The GLXi is a 1.8Ltr engine with 86kw standard, it comes with all electric windows, mirrors, and power steering, also a release fuel cap, not the key vrsion on the GL. The interior is upgraded and the seats are better with 60/40 split in the rear, which is not available on the GL. The GL you are looking at still would not have as much power as the GLXi standard. The thing to watch with buying modified cars is, that the previous owner must have done it for a reason, and this can lead to trouble later on. If the car has had a hard life I will cost you more in the future, I would be very wary of the GL. On another note if you are working full time, why do you not save up for the current shape lancer, which you so desire? Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

Cause i was drunk when I posted that! I didnt' even realise til now that I wrote the wrong thing. Yeh I'm only workin part time and I'm gettin a loan anyway. The GL isn't heavily modified, as far as I can see it was only the exhuast performance wise.
I would still go for the GLXi as later down the track you will be wishing, you had the power windows, mirrors, steering, full colour coding, better interior, and much better engine. You will have more to play with in the end, and the GLXi is fuel injected as apposed to the GL which is a carbie. To put it straight the GLXi is still to some extent is still current technology (engine anyway), as apposed to the GL. There are pleanty of bargins to be had, don't get your mind set on a particular car, many good Lancers are around your price range, so keep an eye out, and if the car you want is not there now who sais it is not going to be there tomorrow.
