All this engine talk...Mitsu for all new Lancers/Cedias/Virages/etc. seem to be using a wiiiide variety of various engines in all sorts of different displacements. In JDM form it should be a 1.5L and a 1.8L GDI engine as well as a 1.8L GDI turbo in the wagon. Some others are using a DOHC variant of the common 1.8L 4G93 in Pac. Rim countries. For now it would seem that for countries with similar standards to the US, i.e. Australia, they're going to be jockin' the new 2.0L 4G94 (pretty much a bored out 4G93) with lots o' torque as their new base motor, disgarding the older 1.5 and 1.8 powerplants that aren't upgraded/retrofitted with GDI due to the new CS6A chassis' higher weight. As for the early comments (episido mostly) about a 2.0 liter being great for a small car, one needs to remember that Mitsu doesn't place an emphasis on high output small displacement NA powerplants like some other companies like Honda (B series, H series, F series (S2k at least)). Take more recent Accords in the US. In '91 the top of the line EX trim came racked with a F22 engine putting out 130~ HP but a nice torque number for getting around town with cargo. Then recent (most everything from say...95 to 01) Accords had a 2.4L 4 cylinder with around 150~ HP but again, with good torque. Now though the Accords are sporting Hondas new baby the K series which I'm not entirely to familiar with juuuust yet. So yeah. My two cents. Curious about that super nice sportronic auto as well as your super nice interiors Aussie guys.

with the kw question I worked it out to be .... 92 kw to 120 hp Roughly.

So I think it's basically the same.

The sportstronic is pretty cool.... I mean for taking corners fast and things like that.....

When taking off at the lights my car ( in Auto) will change to second at 6k anyway.

So basically the sportstronic is a way to manually kickback I guess. Don't know if as a result of using Sportstronic in this car standard, if it possibally means a stronger tranny in comparison to a standard Auto

the sportsronic works like this... you have the standard P,N,R, and D settings but when you are in the D ( drive setting) you can shift the stick to the left and then you have the option of " + " and "-" for changing gears ... the other thing is it's basically fool proof.... it Won't let you change from 4 to 2 or even from 3 (at really high RPM) to second ... so ya don't blow that puppy out of the water.

The other thing is Heaps of cars now have this type of auto now... from Mazda 6 to celica , MR2 yeah.... The thing is it still wouldn't beat a manual... but might reduce some of the slush out of a slush box?

Nope, GDI is different from most cars, which use MPI (multi-point injection).
GDI injects directly into combustion chamber, right on top of the piston and next to the spark plug.

Saw the VRX in a Australian car mag and from what I got it was the same as the OZ here in the states. They just rebadged it to make it sell over there. But they get to have the chrome grille painted to the color of the car at the factory. You australians look up RPW.

Cool VRX2.0

Hey there...

I've got myself a 2.0 VRX and I'v got little to complain about. The take off is a bit sluggish (not what I would expect from the bigger engine), but then it's a much bigger car.

I've started modding it...shopping round for a decent exhaust now

VRX2.0

Hey Tone...

Yeah, got all the options, incl ABS and sunroof, alarm, etc, etc. Paid $32500 all up, on road. The extra $2k jump from an LS to VRX is worth it. Interior is far better, and you _need_ the bodykit.

Was looking at getting an RX too...but...had to get another lancer... Traded in my GLXI and didn't look back...

wow hehe I recon I got the same deal as you

I got the same extras. What mods are you getting... Also I noticed prices for US for ehaust and intake.... But have no clue how much it would be in comparison to AUS prices..... I read allot of reviews about the VRX and none have been that good

in comparison to the rest of the compitition is it that bad??

I think some mods might speed it up a bit ... But why are the reviewers saing it's that slow!! I mean it's time for 0 - 100 is 9.3sec and the same time the subaru RX is 10sec ... All well Atleast I get heads turning

Love to hear how your mods go!!!

Where abouts in Aust are you?

Tone..

For mods, check out RPW. With the intake, you can use the same MAS adapter that the 1.8 uses. So far, I've only got 17" ROH Andrenalins, and an Alpine system...oh, and a momo knob. Gotta suss out some new springs, cos they use a different size to the CE. In regards to speed, well, there is a small markup. High end torque is where you notice the difference mainly. The 2.0 doesn't mind reving out. The 1.8 seemed a bit breathless when redlining. Now, I can easily flick it into 2nd and go straight to 85kph without sounding like the engine's gonna fall out...

btw I'm in Melb...and yes...they do get headsaturning

Cheers,

Enigma
