AMS catback questions

  • What does your catback weigh?
  • How loud is it? I have heard the clips but Orange County, CA where I live is very picky about exhausts?
  • Is it fully 3 Inch without neck-downs?
  • I noticed the 3 bolt flanges on the cat-back in the pictures. Is it possible to order it with stock style 2 bolt flanges so that I can swap the stock cat and dp in and out?
I have looked over all the exhausts available for the Evo and I like yours the best of all.

I have run their exhaust for sometime now, both on track, and bumping around town.

It is very subdue around town, I hardly notice it just riding around, now wide-open is kind of different. I will send you a PM with a link to a track event, and you can hear how loud it is (or isn't) under wide-open throttle. This vid was shot with the cat in, not the test-pipe.

I have AMS' catback, and love it. Very high quality and the best sounding Evo I have ever heard.

Their cat-back comes with a 3-bolt to 2-bolt pipe so that it will mount right up to stock.

Sound is perfect, no ricey-fart sound at all. Just nice deep tone that isn't too loud around city streets.

Thanks that is a great sounding exhaust. Is that with a DP and HFC or stock DP and Cat?

Yep, it is with all the goodies. The biggest difference 'to me' was the boost response, it is much peppier on the track. Also, it can stand some heat, because I have been tracking it all year, with NO issues. I think you would be very happy.

Can it mate up to a stock dp or other makes DPs? If I did not live in the CA, it would not matter. But I need to be able to do this.

The other question does the dp fit an MR?

I ran the stock downpipe on my GSR for a while, so yes, but will it fit on an MR, don't know.

Eric?

ok the way our downpipe works is pretty simple. It is a 3bolt 3" flange but we include a very short adapter piece that is designed to bolt up to the stock cat. Now if later on down the road you want to bump up to our full turbo back by adding the Test pipe/cat and downpipe all you have to do is remove the small adapter piece and you have a full NO NECKDOWN 3" turbo back exhaust. Sound is hard to describe over the net but its very sublte. we are in the process of redoing the site, most of which is new video's and sounds clips. The system weighs (in catback form) at just under 25lbs.

Had the catback installed for about 10 mins. and heard it at idle. Mechanic didn't know i wanted the turbo back. had it installed and honestly i couldn't tell the difference at idle that is.. Had my turbo back installed for 2 weeks and drove next to 2 cops without any troubles so far.( of course i was very gentle with the throttle) but, overall Nice deep sound. No drone on the highways. But when you lay on it, it can sound like a beast.

I think you just sold an exhaust. Very nice piece of work.

Your downpipe uses the factory donut to seal at the O2 housing?

erikgj, yes we use a custom CNC'd flange to accept the factory donut that works as beautifuly as the stock one does.

BTW guys I did test fit one of our downpipes on an MR Saturday and it fit just fine with no clearance issues with the larger transfer case.

FerdEVO03 I lived in Round Lake Beach for about 2 months when I first moved here in Jun-Aug. Did you ever see a black GVR4 or a white GVR4 rolling around?
