Tired of Banging my head

It is a sad story and I’m tired of beating my head against the wall.

I bought a 95 Eagle Talon AWD from some hack that had made it a drag car. He put a 6-bolt in it . A 3” GM MAS with a MAFT (old model 1). It has an SAFC. 660 Injectors and a 16G turbo. I added a Wide Band, Suspension etc with the intent of open track. The guy I bought it from had the EPROM flashed.

Here is the problem I have tried everything to get the tuning right.
I have replaced:
Coil (MSD)
Added MSD DIS-2
10mm plug wires
New Plugs

I can get it to 12.5-1 WOT. (Or what ever I want)
I can get it to cruise at 13-1. (Same here)
The problem is if I go from cruise to ½ to ¾ throttle the O2 will spike to 16-1 just until the boost starts to build. If I go straight to WOT it is fine. My concern is that on the track that spike could cause detonation. I know that because I already blew my 2.3
I've put another JDM 6-bolt in it and don’t want to loose it too.

I suspect this is due to the flash he had done to the ECU. Do you think that is reasonable?

Sorry I’m so long winded.

Get rid of the MAFT and put your 2g MAS back in and tune it with a logger/afc/wideband. All of your problems will go away.

That is good advice. The MAFT and GM maf is very very difficult to tune accurately with. with a 16G on that car you are no where near the level where you are running out of room on the stock MAF.

The GM maf and MAFT can be tricky if you're not familiar with it. Do you have the instruction and do you know what all your settings are inside the box. If not just open the box up and list off all the settings.

Second questions, what are your low and high throttle points on the SAFC?
I would tune for 11.5-11.8 for at WOT for open tracking, 12.5 is a bit too lean in my opinion.

Do you have access to an OBD II logger?

This is all good advice. I want to go back to the 2G MAS. Can I still use it blow through?

I am familiar enough with the MAFT to know the old 1.3 version is of no use since it realy only has low/mid/WOT settings. I was either going to go back stock or upgrade it.

Know anybody that wants to trade GM for 2G MAS?

And to answer the other question Martin: I have a pocketlogger and my WB has a Logger as well.

Right now I'm really 11-1 at WOT. On track I would definately want to run rich.

I have the Low and High set 30-70.

I am taking the good advice and running with it.

I just ordered a used 2g MAF with K&N and all pipes. The stock O2 Housing.
I'll be installing it next weekend and I will update you on the progress.

Just so you know, you will not be able to use that 2G MAF in a blow-through setup, only draw-through. Best of luck, though. :-)

Some claim they have but I'm sceptical. I just wanted to vent to air. I love the sound.

BUt I guess I will have to recirculate.

Good new and bad news:

I got all the stock parts and installed them. (MAF, O2 housing and I set it back to re-circulate. Went right together and fired up first shot.

Still does the same thing. Goes lean for a second or two. Starts at 12-1 jumps to 15-1 (1-2 seconds) then down to 10.5-1 and stays there.

More Ideas please.

The lower the RPM the longer the spike. At 5K I don't see it but I assume it just happen fast. My concern is it only takes 1 second to detonate.

Am I just paranoid?
