Looking for budget friendly power
Looking for budget friendly power
I currently have the AMS TBE, CAI, fuel pump, and dyno tune on a 2004 EVO. You guys did a fantastic job - but its time for more!! There is one hitch - my lovely wife. I spent gobs of cash on my STI just to hit 400whp. Same monie would have yielded much more on an EVO, I know. I then had to sell the car and eat all the cash I put into it. Needless to say she is not a big fan of spending cash on cars.
So, while someday I hope to spend $5k on a GT37R kit - it won't be now. What can I do to add some power without taking out a loan. Somewhere in the $500 - $1000 or so range?
My first thought was upper and lower IC piping. Will these same pipes fit the race IC? I don't want to drop several hundred just to have them replaced a couple years later. Is there a turbo that fits the stock placement that is affordable? I hear of the 10.5 housing - what exactly is this and what can I expect for power gains and cost? I know meth is a good bang for the buck option, but I'd like to stay away from that.
Please don't haze me for being new to the EVO world!!

yes cams will yield the best gain licp and uicp will give you about 10-15 whp max and dont fit the race ic the race ic comes with new pipes. maybe a mbc and cams with a new tune. forge mbc is $80 + $530 for cams will get you a really good amount of power!
options I see are:
Lower IC pipe
do the upper later as it really isnt required untill you go with a bigger turbo
10.5 Hotside. Its a larger hotside that yields some nice power
O2 housing, cheap and easy way to pull some extra power from the exhuast
Cams as stated above.

Thanks guys -
I called and got some rough quotes. I did some digging on the net and came up with two more questions.
For the 10.5, I have seen references to a single 'port or flapper' and a dual. What are these differences in terms of function and power.
Cams - do they require immediate tuning (I have a larger fuel pump) or can I install and drive in for tuning? I live about an hour west of AMS.
Thanks for the help!
