Resonators added to AMS TBE????

I currently have an AMS TBE with high-flow cat and standard Vibrant muffler or resonator...whatever it is. I want to make the overall exhaust sound quieter without compromising it's high-flow attributes so as not to sacrifice high rpm HP. So, I was considering adding two resonators after the cat and before the rear muffler. Vibrant makes some nice stainless steel versions that would go nicely with the rest of the high quality stainless exhaust. It looks like there is enough room for two resonators (one 12 inch and one 18 inch) in the straight section after the cat.

Now I know that since these resonators are a flow-through design, they will not completely quiet the exhaust, but I'm hoping they will help.

Has anyone ever done this to their AMS exhaust?

Or can AMS make any other suggestions on how to quiet down their exhaust?

If I must, I will consider changing the rear resonator to a muffler if the air flow restriction is not going to greatly reduce the air flow and HP. I know there is some sacrifice for quiet sound and willing to take it if necessary, but I'd like to know all my options.

Thanks!

We have done it to a few exhausts and it does help a little. Just make sure you get some non restrictive units and you will be fine.

Anyone that got this done can describe how it helped reducing the sound?

If you get one of the Dynomax bullet mufflers/resonators and have it welded in-line (into the mid-pipe after the cat), it will help to eliminate most, if not all of the raspiness of the exhaust. It will not make it a whole lot quieter, though (expect about 2-4 db max.).

I just went from an all v-band AMS/Vishnu exhaust (AMS DP, Vishnu HF cat, Vishnu mid-pipe, AMS Vibrant muffler) to an all custom flanged setup (AMS DP, AMS resonated test pipe, 18" Dynomax bullet in AMS mid-pipe, 12" Dynomax bullet in AMS custom rear pipe). The exhaust volume is about the same, maybe slightly quieter, and the exhaust note is much improved. Much more of a low growl without _ANY_ raspiness at all. Prior to the new setup, if I put a test pipe on the car, you could hear it for miles ... it was insanely loud. Even with the HF cat it used to be really obnoxious - just ask the guys at AMS what they had to suffer through every time the car was on the dyno, hehe... You can get the Dynomax bullets from Summit racing for about 50 bucks.
