Import Wars #4 7-19-08
This past Saturday a couple of guys from the shop and myself made the trip over to Great Lakes Dragway for Import Wars #4. It was lookin a little cloudy but Weather.com was claiming only 20% chance of rain. I took my Mirage (Evil Evo 1), Mark took his Galant VR4, Santiago took his Galant VR4 and Ivan brought his daily driver 240SX.
After being there for about an hour and with the attendance lacking due to the possibly rain filled clouds they cancelled the event. They said to bring back our reciepts to the reschedule this Saturday but we all could keep running for fun. I made two passes first one being 9.5 then a second pass at 9.4 only to come back to the pits to a mildy pissed off official. He told me I was dont for the day and that until I had a parachute, certified cage and a NHRA license I couldnt run the car. I begged for one last pass and he let me go. I went out for one more pass only to come out of the hole bogging to a 9.7
Ill let the other guys chime in on how it went for them but let me tell you the only thing better then bringing the car home in one piece is racing for free
Here is a vid a friend of mine took of my car, it is a 94 Mitsubishi Mirage with a complete EVO 1 AWD Swap, IPT Automatic Transmission and a EVO 1 front end, all AMS Built!

While the transmission for my drag car is out being serviced, I decided to hit up Import Wars at Great Lakes Dragaway with my daily driver. It is a 97 240sx with intake and exhaust, suspension, wheels and a Stg 4 clutch. Its nothing special really. More set up for HPDE than anything else. I decided to run a bracket class. The event (race portion) ended up getting rescheduled due to poor turn out due to impending rain. I got to basically hot lap for free and work on my consistency.
After playing around with different launching styles and different shift points, I ended up getting my car to run consistent 16.0s. Check these out.
R/T 60ft 1/4 MPH
.010 2.397 16.019 85.59
.009 2.367 16.012 85.64
-.066 2.485 16.081 85.56 Red light
.063 2.462 16.026 87.95
-.019 2.371 16.027 85.39 Red light
.139 2.410 16.020 87.00
I was really trying hard on the tree and in competition, I would probably tone it down just a bit. I feel that these times will get me far in the race that is rescheduled for next week.
I got to make 14 passes in all. Playing with shift points the runs ranged from low 16.4s to high 16.2s. Not shifting to 4th gear at the 1000 ft mark dropped almost .3 seconds off my time and got me in the 16.0s.
I had a great time and just wanted to share. Thanks for reading.

After replacing a blown turbo during the week wanted to test out the new turbo. So I asked martin to tune my car that day he did his magic..
First pass out was a 11.0 with wheel spin. That is something new for me.. Then a 10.8,10.7,10.8 and a 11.1 (breaking up). The new turbo rocks. Cant wait to get some taller tires on this car and get these E.T's down.
