RE: RRM Piggyback in Canada

Has anyone in Canada (or Toronto prefferably) w/ a Manual Ralliart gotten the RRM Piggyback? I've heard somewhere that they're were problems w/ them being used up here...something about emmisions. I thought our cars were the same as the US ones expect the readouts on the dash.

If you have used them then who installed it for ya and any feedback on the product would be cool too. Thanks.

I cant think of anyone in Canada with a RalliArt piggyback yet but I may be wrong. I have heard the odd issue with the 4G94 Lancer piggyback in canada because our computers are designed for cooler weather and our emissions are not as tough but that could just be a myth. Its quite possible that the problems were all caused by installer error. On that not all the problems that I have heard of were that people noticed very little to no difference with there piggybacks.

I've only heard people ***** that they're piggy back didn't turn they're car into a turbo best...hehe....people need to understand what the piggyback does before they complain.

The RRM one's purpose is to flatten the curves. It doesn't add a whole lot to peak.

I've got the piggyback installed and I'm in Ottawa. Nothing seems any different with the emissions, but its not like I have an air tester or anything. I installed it with quick-connect harnesses (kinda like a computer's ATA cables) so if ever there is a problem I could always take it off for emissions. This is the first time I hear of this potentially being a problem in Canada though. I've always thought that California had the strictest emissions policy in North America and if they can run the piggy, I figure so can we.

Did you make the quick connect harness yourself? If not where did you get it from?

I have a RRM Piggyback installed on my RA too. Installed it about 3 weeks ago. It's hooked up with a series of molex connectors to allow for ease of removal in the future.

I can't really comment on emissions related issues since the car ain't scheduled for an emissions test anytime soon.

Performance wise, gains can be noticed throughout most of the RPM range on all gears above 3500 (from what I've noticed). The gains are noticeable of course, but not like heart pounding, head pressed back to the headrest kind of feeling - nonetheless, it's noticeable and you'll have a smile on your face

Before I made my purhcase, I asked Rob (RRM) about issues concerning fuel mapping for the cooler weather we have up here vs. california - he said there should be no problems.

Anyway, with the RRM piggyback and recently installed Pulley, you can really feel the difference ... at least according to the butt-dyno.

Ralliart piggy has never had an issue in canada or cooler climates. Apparently the regular lancer piggy had some and RRM has upgraded to the same style piggy used on the Ralliart. Now there are no issues and the performance was greatly improved over the first generation piggy.

Again though... Ralliarts have never had these issues at all.

I did a write up in the Ralliart Performance review thread about it. Basically I went to Princess Auto and bought some male/female wire connectors. 4 wires to a male rubber connector and the other part is 4 wires to a female rubber connector. I soldered the male connector wires to the piggyback and soldered the female connector wires to the ECU. The way the piggy works is you splice into 4 wires and cut 1 other. You connect 2 of the piggys wires to the two ends of the wire you have to cut. The 4 spliced wires have their own connector and the cut wire has its own separate connector. Had to do the cut wire separate so that when the piggy is off I have a separate connection to plug it in to return to stock.

I have a piggyback. but for the OZ ... I mite just crazy... but so far he is what I noticed... my car runs like *** if I have my CAI on, if I convert to to the short ram ( Injen ) it runs fine... This is ever since I've installed the piggyback. Also if it's very humide outside, the car doesn't run properly.

The asking about the ralliart as it's a totally different box.

The OZ had reported issues with cold climates and is one of the reason for their new piggy that is based of the Ralliarts design. There is no MAP sensor connection on the new boxes. Fixes the cold issue 100%.

To settle this dispute I put the V1 piggy in my car recently and it works amazing. It pulls really hard and my car runs much smoother.

I thought you had an OZ dude. Hey, do ya mind if I go for a ride in your car sometime? I've been thinking about the piggyback for a while but I have always heard its not THAT good.

I just installed the RRM piggyback (2 hours ago, at RRM) in a Canadian sportback ralliart, and it works fine. Huge power difference in the low end and a lot more pull, cleaner power across the board. The top end doesn't dog out anymore right at the redline either.

Mad!
