Canadian Evo 8/9

Hello everyone,

Well, it's been a few weeks now, so I was just wondering if anyone has imported an Evo 8 or 9 yet. I intend to, and I'm going down to look at one this week. Has anyone else done so yet? I know on paper it seems that there is no reason why it's not possible, but has anyone run into any complications? Any idea exactly what kind of work needs to be done to it before importing? (running lights, gauges, etc.) Any info/experience would be greatly apprecaited. If no one has tried yet, maybe you can all learn from my mistakes.
Either way, I'll keep you posted.

ive always loved the evo 9 MR, and really contemplated importing one. mind you, its very easy as a lot of the paperwork can be done ahead of time. definitely worth the while!

im not going to import one though, as I realized i love the S2000 more...

I went down and test drove it. An 05 base Evo. It was pretty spectacular. A lot more turbo lag than my friend's STi, but that comes with the smaller engine/bigger turbo combo I suppose.

Unfortunately, it sold the day after, before I could get my finances lined up. I suppose it's all for the best, as I'd really like a 9, or at least an 8 MR. Plus, this one was white and I really like them in Blue.

Now that I know I want one for sure, it's just a matter of selling my Stealth to have as a good down payment, and getting one up here. I'm hoping within two weeks, but we shall see.

I'll definitely keep you updated, and you guys make sure to let me know how things work out with you.

thats cool.....I've unfortunately never driven one yet.....My friends have a well known rally shop out here and they always have a few EVO rally cars around, but they're different.....I'd like to take one out for a rip, but I'm sure I'll like it......my JDM STI swapped WRX is pretty quick, but after 6 years of ownership I've gotten bored of it.....I think an EVO would be a smart choice I'll post too if I have any good news...

go with the 8 MR

if i wanted an evo bad enough i would've had an evo in toronto by now, for those considering doing it, it is not at all difficult in terms of the process, what some people dont realize is that there is a bit of a sacrifice if you want exclusivity!

true true......I guess they'll be exclusive for a while, but I think by this time next summer they won't be so exclusive :P....... I'll probably get the evo9 myself if my trade works out, otherwise I just have to wait to sell the Subey....no more room in the garage,..... but I would definitely not mind an 8MR either

I'm considering the import of a 06 Evo IX MR as well. I couldn't believe the news that the bumper harmonization law actually came into effect, the rumors proved to come true after all. I've wanted one of these bad boys ever since their release several years back. If it weren't for that stupid bumper law, I would have imported a brand new one. Question though, would the warranty still be valid if I imported a used 06 IX Evo MR? I believe that Mitsu voids warranties on new vehicle imports ie. 08 Evo X's.

i think you will have a hard time trying to get warranty in canada. but still, that said, who needs warranty? i mean, you are most likely going to tune evos (i really have not met anyone that has an evo and is in stock form) so a lot of the warranty goes out the window anyway.

rontam90 ....if you have a look on the toronto-subaru-club.com there is already a evo9 mr for sale with 8000 miles on it....maybe this will save you a trip

PedroMartinez
......part of this law meant that cars that were crashed tested for the Canadian market, were crashed at a speed about 2 mph faster than the US crash tests....because of this, cars that failed the test and didn't conform were not allowed here..... the cars had to have a certain amount of damage, and be able to then drive on their own power....because of this, the EVO's among other cars weren't allowed to be sold up here in Canada.........I think this was a load of BS......but anyways, no since the bumper law has changed, were are using the same crash testing as US cars helping the auto manufacturers make one car for North America instead of one for the US and one for Canada, saving them millions of dollars allowing them to also reduce pricing.........Hope this helps you understand a little bit
