~A~ 18" OEM GTS tire slection change - formal request

I have been getting feedback from alot of members as well as mitsu staff and tire industry people about taking a second look at the OEM GTS wheel the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M. Getting right to the point, people, myself included are not thrilled about this tires all season capability. They are described as a Ultra performance All Season tire. My translation = Summer Tire

Winter is out right dangerous as it is, but these tires are simply not capable of handling a Canadian Winter. I have been informally seeing what Mitsubishi Canada has to say about this and I am now preparing a formal letter to inquire about seeking an alternative tire.

In some ways I made a joke previously about how Mitsubishi arrived at the decision to go with these tires the M5000, my rendition goes something like this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
July 15th 2006 Phoenix Arizona Mitsubishi Technical Conference
Meeting of Project Seniors.
Head Tech: And now on to the subject of tires for the GTS lancer. We are having some production problems with the RIMS but I am sure that will work itself out when productions starts, right now we need to come to an agreement on selecting what rubber goes on the 18" GTS wheel.
Tech1: Well I think the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M is a good tire for the USA, most of our dealers across the nation more or less reside in a compatible weather climate for these tires. Hell I have a set on my convertible here San Diego, never had a problem with them.
Tech2: I was born in Alberta Canada, I am not sure that tire would be a good idea. Average snow fall in some part require a more aggressive tread pattern? After one or two years, the tread of the 5000 M will be incapable of handling even Spring rain conditions. You know I did some research, and for a few dollars more we could get.....
Head Tech: (interrupting)....You know I think its time for lunch, and I want to get some golfing done before the end of the day. I think the 5000 M sounds good, its cheap, seems reliable enough. Does anyone have any objections to the selection of this tire?
Tech2: Well.....
Head Tech: (interrupting) ....Good lets grab some lunch. Meeting Adjourned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well that was my comical rendition I am sure it didnt happen like this... but the point of the story is... I think I second look is needed to consider an alternative tire that is a real All Season tire vs. the Summer tire currently fitted.

This isnt a petition (yet) but just a debate topic. Maybe make suggestions for other tires within the same price range.

I have already talked to a manufacturer and am attempting to get a ball rolling from another angle.

lol i am trying not to make mitsubishi look to bad in this post.

To date mitsubishi hasnt put out a Bulletin on the pull to the left issue so its not official. If it is the tire rubber itself then they gotta put pressure on the manufacturer of the tire to fix it, if that goes nowhere then the ball is back with mitsubishi, and they either pay for it themselves or they do nothing.

Does it comprimise your safety? No.. its it a pain in the ***? Yes..

i've been dealing with mitsubishi and dunlop on tire issues (on my car). very weird tire tread wearing (only inner side of the front tires).

so far, it's not a good experience as it seems mitsubishi does not keep a close connection with dunlop at all. it's a stalemate as no side wants to take any responsibility and they just point fingers at each other (dunlop distributer assures it's alignment issue, mitsubishi dealership certified it's not alignment issue so it must be tire issue).

i strongly suggest all of you to check your front or back tires to see if there's any abnormal tire-wear on the inner/outer corner of your tire.

Keeping on topic with the off topic, my car doesn't pull to the left ??? I can take my hands off the steering wheel for like 10 seconds and my car stays in a straight line and eventually starts veering to the right.

Or are you not talking about alignment.

And back on topic with the on topic I think any tire would be better then the crap ones the GTS came with. My car almost got wrecked last year cuz I didn't realize the tires were so bad. Went around a corner, barely any snow on the ground and doing like 15kph, lost control and almost hit another car.
