Provincial window tint regulations

Anyone understand the Ontario, window tint regulations? Window tinting is under provincial regulations, and they are far from clear and specifically so for Ontario regulations. What tints do all of you have, and how often do the police pull you over for tint? I'm planning on getting 22% to all the car windows with the exception of the front window, which by law cannot have tint. Feedback appreciated, thanks.

here in BC, its illegal to have any shade of tint in the front driver and passenger windows.

they are very strict about it. one time, when the gf was driving our civic that had front windows tinted, the jack-a$$ popo made here strip it off on the side of the road. aside from the sticky stuff that was left on the windows, she was pretty upset of the outcome of having tinted windows.

imo its not worth it at all. but thats just me, as a canuck. :P

I've always had tinted windows and never had a problem. I had to rip it off for inspection though.

If you do get them tinted, keep the tint company card in the car with an appointment date, say "Monday at 12" on the back.

If you get hassled, show the cop the card with the appointment date and chances are he will let you go.

Friend has had great success with that trick

In Ontario it is apparently legal to have tint on the drivers/passenger side windows as long as the "police can see you and your seatbelt on". So that just leaves it up to the cop to decide which is kind of scarey if they want to make your life difficult. People are telling me that they have 22% and they never get hassled here. I have at least 22% on my Chrysler Sebring (bought it that way) and have never been bothered. I have two other friends who have 22% and they are never bothered here either. I just worry since I've had the police drive beside me and then behind me to check out my licence...so they check out the Evo's and other such cars much more carefully I think. I just love the tint on my Sebring...nice for privacy, and good to protect the interior of your car and your face from UV.

To be honest, I would get the 22% in the back and just put 35% on the front driver and passenger window. My bro has 35% on his fronts(from the factory) and its not too bad at night but my friend has 15% I believe on his front and it was so hard to see anything at night, I was praying the whole time i was driving that no pedestrians tried to cross the street. Personally I would play it safe and just get like a 35% to save any hassles from the police and also so u don't plow any pedestrians over. Just my $0.02

Also like u said a car like a Sebring won't get much attention, but an Evo gets tons of wrong attention from the police because of its "street racer" looks as some of them think, so darker tint in the front just gives them a reason to hassle you.

I'm such in conflict about what to do. I want 22%, yet I think I should go with 35%...I'm scheduled to have the tint done on tuesday. I have had at least 22% on the Sebring (never had an accident), and I can see just fine and I just love it (I am more careful when I'm backing up at night though). I just don't want to have the hassle with the cops. I have some friends who went to court to fight their charge of having too much tint (they had around 15%)...they even made pics showing how you can see the person inside...anyways, they lost, as it's up to the cops in Ontario to decide if they can see you. Crap!

i have a black lancer with 22% tint. never had an issue with the cops everytime i was pulled over (for tickets or spot check). JUST REMEMBER to turn on your cabin light as soon as you get pulled over and you wont have an issue.

^hmm when i was pulled over on my previous blacked-out lancer here in vancouver, the lady cop in her ghost cop car (ford taurus, really stealthy), looked at my front windows closely. when she saw the obvious tint cutoff on the tip of the window, whe wrote my a ticket.

edit - just to add that i turned on my dome light when she pulled me over. maybe is just me on my bad luck on window tint hahaha.

here is a pic:

wow, if she has to look that carefully for the cut off mark, i guess in vancouver you can't have ANY tints at front.

It appears that they are pretty strict with that law in B.C.
I think I'm going to go with the 22% and if they make me remove it, then I'll just have to get the fronts redone. What's a ticket for this infraction worth?

LOL...So it's either twice that price or half that price in Ontario. Never know which way the wind blows here.

I got the 22% window tints done to all but the front window (of course), and had the window visors put on...the car looks amazing and I can see clearly. I'm actually glad I went with the 22%. I'll post the before and after pics next week.

never had any problem.. my car is 22% all round, and im confident u can get away with darker..
the only issue is you dont want to get so dark that it starts to impede ur visibility at night.

if you ever get pulled over, roll down your windows as soon as u get pulled over, dont give the cop a chance to book u for it, put a smile on and itll be fine, cops only find reasons to dock u for something if you give them a hard time

as well i would follow jappaswats advice it is sound.

From this site and another site, it appears that people in Ontario don't have much of a problem if they go 22%, yet once they go down to 15% they 'might'. I can see perfectly fine with the 22% out the drivers side at night, yet to have the sun in through that window in the daytime would probably be more dangerous.
