Type of Motor oil for Lancer?

Its supposed to be 5w30 right?

I got my oil changed at Canadian Tire and they put in this Formula 1 10w30.

Is that ok?

Im not one to bad mouth places but dont go to Canadian Tire for Anything...EVER. i could probalby help you find a good shop in your area that is trust worthy or worse case senario go to the dealership. its not too bad on prices and they actually know your car specificially.

Now regards to your question. the manual recomends 5w-30 but for weather above 30*C you are supposed to use 10 weight. you should be alright. I personally just use 5w-30 but i use synthetic (MOBIL 1 is the best IMO) but remember once you switch to synthetic you cant go back.

I had to switch because of my semi-agressive driving and the large amount of KM's i put on my car each month. I bought it in January 2003 and now i have over 75000 km's ( Like i said, i drive a lot)

Why can't you go back once you switch to synthetic? Whats the cost difference?

it's an old wives tale about not being able to go back..

you can go back and forth with no issues.. just don't mix the two..

That's also not entirely true. In MOST cases, modern synthetics are compatible with conventional oil. The only no-no is to mix older conventional oils with modern synthetics, because the additives are different.

As long as you buy new brands/lines of oil, you should be ok. There's some good info in the FAQs on the Valvoline site if you want to learn more.

im not going to sit here and argur with you weather its good or not but i personally wouldnt do it, or recomend it to anyone. Its a real good way to get all your seals to start leaking.

Regular Oil is natural and Synthetic is made in a chemistry lab. You wouldnt drink half a beer then top up the bottle with scotch. There just not ment to be in the same container. and your engine over time would have simular sideeffects to your body.... {PUKE}

there is such a thing as semisynthetic which is also good. i just am using synthetic because of the way i drive. If you arnt putting more then 20,000 km on your car a year and arnt driving it hard, reguar oil is fine. Actually its the best thing for your car.

But mixing them come on

i don't mix either, i was simply providing info that if you have to, it's not necessarily bad. the valvoline site says that if you're using all synthetic, and you need to top off with regular oil, it's not a bad thing.

i think valvoline might know what they're talking about...

Synthetic is a lot more expensive too. I do a good number of kms, but probably not a lot more than 22000km a year. Would I benefit from using systhetic in wear/performance/temp change(being in Canada ).

****. I have a 99 Z24 and I barely have 75000 kms in 5 years.

For your sake I hope your motor lasts long. However I doubt you'll make it to 150,000 without needing a new one.

it's not a domstic (joking)

i had over 250,000 miles on my accord and it was on the orginal motor.. the tranny bell housing was worn out after 7 clutch changes and it was time to let it go

the next accord i had i put 183,000 miles on it and it was going strong until i got the new 04 lancer

these cars (imports) last forever
