I'd go just to watch. I don't think you have to participate. I'll have to check my schedule as I don't think I am in town then.

I'm sure Danno is right, if anyone wanted to compete in the "stock" class (not sure of the exact classifications..), you'd have to make sure your actual "contract" (leasing, financing or otherwise) will let you..

At any rate, you'd probably want to have at least a kill switch, a security cage, new seat belts, etc.. I don't think many of us are actually thinking of _participating_ at this point in time...
(Although it would be fun to find an older Evo for example, prep it for rallye racing... The mitsu dealership I go to is owned by Mr. Losier, who drives a green evo V and will be participating at this rallye...)

SO! Who else wants to go WATCH ?

Legally, you are free to enter your car in a competitive event (such as a rally or SCCA race) even if it's leased/financed. But you can kiss your warranty and insurance goodbye!

Exactly. Even in "stock" classes, you still need to meet the appropriate FIA or SCCA safety regulations. That means 6-point cage, racing seats for both driver and passenger, 5-point quick-release harnesses, disabled airbags, and hard-mounted fire extinguisher. That's pretty much the minimum level of car prep.

I plan to get into rally racing eventually. But starting with a highly-competitive AWD class would be very discouraging (and a little dangerous!). I plan to start with a fairly stock FWD car. An old VW Rabbit or GTi is very competitive in it's class. And running costs are very cheap.

I'm very interested. We should plan a caravan or carpool.
