Worst experience @ Capitol Mitsubishi

I've been buying cars from various dealerships for the past 10 years. I gotta say that today was the worst experience I've had over a decade. Was in the San Jose area and so I decided to dropby and see if they can match the "going pricing" as discussed by numerous threads in the EvoX forum.

I'm in the market and I was ready to pull the trigger if they gave me the price I wanted. Inquired about a red GSR base and after an hour of talk with the salesman going back-and-forth to the managers office, we finally settled with 7K off sticker and I made it clear the 0% APR is included. Then we agreed on the trade-in which was not good, but I just wanted to get it over with. I also explicitly said not to run my credit until I see the breakdown of price & OTD figure. So, next step was with the finance person, they were going to show me numbers. Then, from that point on, everything started going downhill.

1.) First, the salesman suddenly announced to me that they couldn't get the car from the "warehouse" because the general manager was out of town and brought with him the keys. He couldn't produce the car till Monday. He then tells me that he was going to provide me with a loaner car (Chrysler sedan) till then. (alarms started ringing in my head, my wife gave me a big frown)

2.) Next, the finance manager shows me the computer screen, and tells our payments were like $677 a month. I said "WHAT?" A base GSR with 7K off sticker and zero APR, plus what we owe with my trade should just be around $500/month only. He then walks out of his office and tells the manager "He wants zero APR???", salesman walks in and tells me that I cannot combine the 7K discount with zero APR, they will have to take 2K off the discount if I wanted the special finance. WTF??? I thought we already had an agreement and shook hands with it.

3.) As we started walking out, I asked the salesman if the finance guy ran my credit... he said that they might have. WTF is up with these guys? I explicitly said I wanted to see the numbers first. Unbelievable.

So we headed out... got upset for wasting over 2hours of our lives. What a piece of work... that dealership. This serves as a warning to everyone else in the forums! If you don't want to waste your time, take your business somewhere else.

BIG !

well mitsu's deal is that you can have 5k off and 0% or 7k off and regular APR but if they agreed to 7k off and 0% APR they should honor what they agreed to.

I hate dealers and the whole buying a car at a general. the acura dealer I was at recently had nothing but helpful friendly people though, same with the BMW dealer I was at. the mitsu dealer I'm working with now is a little shady with management but the salesman is cool. they have the best price and what I want in stock so I'm forced to work with them, so far it hasn't been a great experience but it hasn't been bad either.

$7K off is easily attainable due to the dealer cash that can be combined with 0% APR, a lot of posters here have reported even getting $8k off and no interest financing.

Even though he basically worked you over it's on you to make sure everything he says it put down in writing. Handshakes and verbal agreemements mean squat these days. Lesson learned...

I thought that was the norm when it comes to dealerships. Don Herring is the same. But when you gotta have it you gotta have it

That really sucks but it is good you are warning others. One thing that you should know is when talking to the finance person your credit is most likely already run.
