Custom tune tomorrow. Boost pill removal?
Custom tune tomorrow. Boost pill removal?
Hey guys have a question for you. I'm getting my tune tomorrow after finishing up my mods today. I just installed AMS FMIC, U&LICP, AMS intake, Cobb 3port BCS, tomei wide mouth, test pipe and exhaust. Do I need to remove the boost pill?
The boost pill will already be removed as long as you used new vacuum hoses with the 3-port install. The two stock BCS should be completely removed, along with their associated hoses. You should have used 3 new hoses...one for each port on the new BCS
The 3rd port is supposed to run back to the intake pipe, if you set it up properly. A proper intake pipe will have 3 inlet nipples: BOV, crankcase ventilation, and BCS discharge. Not hooking it up this way is like intentionally building a small boost leak into your intake system.

Maybe you could describe it as an "intermittent boost leak", but not continuous
I guess I have just always seen people show it as this way, including obviously big places like Perrin.
We have MAP tables to balance this off anyway, oh well. Maybe on my new intake i will get another bung for this.
See the diagram I edited in above. Why build in an "intermittent boost leak" when you have the ability to create an ideal sealed system? Once the air passes through the MAF and it is metered, it should have no where to go other than eventually into the combustion chamber since the ECU is supplying the fuel for it.

I think I will rework my new intake to have this option. My car is so far removed from stock I don't remember all that it used to have. I think I might even add another line to my SSP catch can for the intake as well.
I won't argue its better to have what you show but I don't know if its completely necessary with the way our cars kind of average MAP and MAF calcs.
Anyway, moving on...hook it up like Kracka said.

Whatever intake you get, it would be easy to add if it doesn't include it already. I had a metal Buschur intake pipe on my IX that did not include the proper nipples so I just got a few brass fittings from the hardware store, drilled two holes, screwed them in, and added a little sealant around them
