Dissapointing 14.5 @ 90.8mph

Hey everyone ~ Went to the track yesterday with a bunch of my evo buddies. Everyone ran a great time except for me! I almost even got smoked by a stock 05 evo!

Anyway here are my mods:
04 EVO
Turbo XS MBC
Greddy Type RS
5Zigen Miracle Fireball Catback Exhaust
RRE Rally Cat

Defi BF Boost Gauge for reading my boost.

Reaction: .381
60ft: 1.999
ET: 14.537
MPH: 90.869

This was @ LACR in Palmdale (www.lacr.net) so according to there calculations based on altitude I ran a 14.037 ... I know I could of worked on the 60ft a little better... On my first run I heard something leaking and 4th gear would hold boost @ 1.0 BAR... I attributed it to my snorkel and removed it .. it did better but still 90MPH? Come on! I should be trapping near 95+

The stock 05 (albiet the 10.5 hotside) even had a higher mph than me and he was pulling on me! I think perhaps its a leak - any insight?

I can peak @ 1.4-1.6 bar but it always tapers down to 1.1-1.25 .. Comments/Suggestions/Opinions? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slower times out here in Cali and the elevation does not help.

We need more info to help diagnose. I'm less concerned about the ET than I am the mph. Your ET is a combination of a bad 60', poor driving, and sub-standard power. The 60' can be improved, as can your driving, but the sub-standard power is a much bigger issue to resolve.

First, let me quickly cover the driving aspects. 1.999 is bad, but I've seen and done worse. Do you have a stock clutch? How are you launching? You should get mid 1.8s on every launch with just an average launch even on the stock clutch. This alone would reduce your 1/4-mile ET by 2 or 3 tenths. Then, you should not be shifting before 7k. I have no idea why people do this, because your car should pull strong all the way to redline with the hp peaking somewhere around 7.2-7.3k. I suggest not going to redline in every gear until you have cams, so for now, you should not shift until 7250 or so. This ensures that you pull to your peak hp point in every gear, AND it ensures that when you shift to the next gear you are at a higher RPM and already in the middle of that gear's sweet spot.

Now, for the power issues. I assume since you didn't list any intake mods and that you mentioned the "snorkel" that you have the stock intake box with plastic snorkel attachment. If so, what made you think the snorkel caused the "leaking" sound, and why did you remove it? Was your snorkel fastened down to the front bumper like it was in stock form? Did you have both fasteners holding down the snorkel? When you removed it, did you then just have a oval-shaped hole in the top of the intake box that was pointing towards the hot engine with no way for cool air to directly flow into the airbox? Just need to make sure. Also, do you know why you were only at 1.0 bar (14.7psi) in 4th? Were you spiking at 1.0 and holding...or were you spiking at 1.5 then dropping to 1.0? Did you notice your boost levels in 2nd or 3rd? Give me those details.

I know you are at 2600' elevation, so your et/mph should suffer accordingly, but even so, you should look at the MR's mph for an idea of where you should be. It doesn't appear he was a good driver either, so I would expect that I'd run a 13.5 or 13.6@100 mph at your track if I use my 500' elevation stock time below as a reference. That would put your 03 at 13.8-14.0@97-98 in STOCK form at your track, yet you are way slower than that WITH mods. Did you ever run in stock form? What did you get? You also are not tuned, so it's hard to complain...you could have all sorts of mods, but they mostly go to waste without proper tuning. I suggest getting at least a flash, but until then, I believe there are problems that we can troubleshoot right here and now if given the proper information.

Check the accuracy of your boost gauge.

Stock airbox - On my first run it would peak to 1.5 then taper to 1.0 in the high rpm range - I remember reading about a snoral issue here so I removed the snorkal all together so yeah could be hot air ..

BUT after I took the snorkal off I cut .9 seconds off my ET and boost was tapering to 1.1-1.25. Boost lvls in 1st and 2nd were fine peaked @ 1.5 - tapered to 1.25-1.3 ... And yes I was WAY slower @ the mods .. I know I'm not tuned but I should STILL be running faster than a stockevo ...

I know my driving isnt the greatest but it isnt the suckiest .. I'm not worried about my ET but my trap speed .. its 90-92mph max - thats slower than a stock evo ... =( HELP! And ty all for your input!

The fasteners on the snorkal broke when I installed my mbc so it was attacked via zipties .. I removed the snorkal because I remember reading on here that people were having that issue of it getting stuck to the hood ...

Who are you? Which car are you in this thread, or are you just giving us a basis for comparison at Palmdale?

What mods did you have on the 13.3s and 104mph? Why would you upgrade injectors...I assume that means you had all the bolt-ons up through cams and needed more fuel?

HAHAHAHA, well the reason I ask is because it was me!! I went the entire last week thinking I had a boost leak, when in fact my snorkel was causing it. Removing the snorkel wasn't the answer, though. I had to lock it down with new fasteners, then everything went back to normal. You really should keep the snorkel in there, but maybe the zipties weren't holding it down tight. Also, those fasteners are RE-USABLE, haha. I broke mine, too, during the MBC install, because I didn't know how they worked. You just push down on that little circle in the middle, and that releases the fastener. Then, when you put it back in, pull that little middle piece UP through the main body, then place the whole thing in the hole. After that, you just push down on the middle piece, and it clicks into place. Replacements are kinda hard to find, and they aren't cheap, so I suggest grabbing 2 from the trunk lining, then using those on the snorkel. Keep that bad boy on there, then go again.

As for your boost, it should NOT peak at 1.5 in 1st and 2nd if you have it set at 1.5 peak in 3rd and 4th. You should only be hitting 1.3bar or so in those lower gears, unless you have your boost actually set well above 1.5. It also shouldn't taper with an aftermarket BOV, unless the MBC just sucks. I know some people have gotten rid of their TurboXS MBC to replace it with a better one, but I can't speak to that first hand. My Hallman peaks at 1.5bar in 3rd, then tapers only to 1.4 at worst. If I have it set at 1.3, it holds that with no taper. I'm also on the stock BOV, so mine SHOULD taper just from the bov leaking, so I'd check into that if I were you.
