Going to the track!

Ok so Ive had my evo vii for about a month now(1600 miles) and im taking it to the track bone stock before i mod. I want to master how to drive the car before i mod it so i know how to drive right. first things first right? So what should I know about running a stock evo at the track? Ive heard of some shifting points like 1st and 2nd gear ride out but third shift a little b4 redline and stuff like that. What about the launch?> I have an 05 and ive been practicing on the street launching at the 5K spot and im actually not that bad.

First, you're going to have to decide whether or not you want to use the stock 5k limiter as a launch control or not. You can't effectively launch below 5k, so you'll either have to learn how to launch while using the 5k limiter or disconnect it and learn how to launch at 5500-6000. I remove the limiter, since I never figured out how to get good 60's with the limiter, but there are others who are able to do it. The launch is the most important part, so if you don't figure this out, you won't ever get good times.

As for shifting, you don't ride out any gear, and you don't shift before redline in 3rd. After you launch, you will want to shift to 2nd around 7000rpm. I find that I have to shift slightly before 7000 sometimes if my launch causes the boost to hit so hard that it dies off early. When I feel it die off early, I shift quickly. Anyway, after that, the other shifts are going to be the same every time. You want to shift at 7100-7200 in 2nd and 3rd without cams. Later, with cams, you can shift higher around 7500.

Yes, there is. To get you in the habit of searching first, I will point you in the right direction.

- Click on "Search - Advanched Search"
