so i launched for the first time in my evo 8

So basically, i got the car recently and im pretty sure it was a drag car but brought back down too stock before resale. I didnt know the car had launch control untill i got bored in a parkig structure late at night. It was limited at 5000 rpms and i thought that was perfect for launch. Next week (today) i was with my friends and they said "launch it ***** you wont" and i decided id launch it since i launched once but at around 4000-4500 rpms pretty well (atleast for me). Anyways i launched today, the passanger and i felt some type of tire spin from back some how, then launch. The people out side said they saw a little bit of smoke out the back. My question is, did i **** my rear diff or just tire smoke ?
thank you for reading. Thanks guys. Also how will i know i launched perfectly

Did you dump or slip the clutch? That smoke could be from your trans (burning clutch specifically), spinning tires (which I wasn't able to do on a stock tune, I can do it no problem now at 5k rpm at 300+ whp), or possibly your diff which I doubt. Also if you're running rich it could have possibly been a blast of black smoke out of the exhaust.

Your car has "launch control" from the factory (known as stationary rev limit). Doesn't mean it was previously a drag car. Just FYI.

It's normal obviously the factory launch controls is still active if it wasn't you will be able to launch it higher then 5k Mitsubishi did that so you won't break any drivetrain components smoking the tires is normal
