This is not believable, though, sorry. I have absolutely no top-end on my MR without cams. I trapped 113.2 today for the first time in 4th after having my rev limiter raised, and my turbo was completely out of breath. Now, I could have shifted to 5th if I was racing up to 130mph, but I was just racing to the 1/4-mile. Anyone who is trapping 116mph in the 1/4 would be pulling away from me big-time when I trap 113. I suppose you just experienced the illusion created by being between gears. He hits 5th and is in overdrive while you're still in our 5th, which is actually still useful.

Mr. MR and I are good friends and what he says is true. We both hit it on the highway me in fourth briefly, quickly into fifth, I believe he was in fifth going into sixth, and I couldn't pull away that far at all. I did have another passenger with me in the car, but I don't think that had a big effect. I honestly think the 05s are just that much better than the 03s. Hence the name of the car....evolution.

What rpm is good to shift at on the stock turbo with 272s?

see but if u were only in fourth briefly then into fifth, that would further illustrate the point. Fifth gear in the five speed is a long gear, but on the six speed is still a useful gear. go from like 55 mph in third and see what happens!
i think ur shift point honestly depends on ur tune and when power begins to drop off. i guess generally speaking it would be anywhere from 7k-7,200 on stock valvetrain with ur setup!

7400-7500, but it depends on what the dyno shows. If your cam gears are set to give more top-end, then maybe a little later. If you're set for more low-end power, then maybe earlier, but 7400-7500 is about right. I do 7200 on stock cams...

You'de be suprised on how much more power you need to make to really pull away from someone at highway speeds. A passanger might make up a 15-20whp difference. You really have to be making at least 25whp more to really even notice someone edging you out, and 50whp more to really start pulling on someone. And of course it all depends on the gearing also. If you're at 5K rpm and the other person is at 6K, then he might have 30whp more than you at that point. That's why I think if you really want to pull on someone at will, you need 100whp or more on them.

Congrats on the run Tim, great job driving! We now have our AWD dyno running, you should bring that beast down and we see what it makes.

Yeah, that's what we were thinking too. We need to try it again from 3rd gear. I like it better though that I could keep up, and I don't want to tarnish the MR's record.

Ok. so on Sat. when Tim and I dyno,we will see where the cars are. Then when Tim isn't looking, I need you to install 100whp more than Tim's in my car.
