Cool interesting little race...

This is the low down...

Me and my buddy are in Iraq right now, and we have been good friends for a while. Also, our cars started stock and all the way up to the nitrous stuff. We are buying car parts left and right for when we get back.

Which one would you put your money on?

My car, Naomi (2003 Lancer ES)

RRM stage 1 turbo(intercooled)
Ported intake manifold, Ported throttle body
NX Intercooler kit
RRM Crank Pulley
SAFC-II
Looking into Alky injection(just looking)
2300 lb clutch(ACT)
Im also going to get it dyno tuned at Cobb tuning in salt lake

His car(2000 Honduh Civic)
LS/vtech hybrid
Stage 3 ACT clutch
Cams, Camshafts(i think skunk2)

He is not that good of a driver, but we are both coming off a 130 day deployment, so niether of us will be to good. And yes, this is taking place at a dragstrip, RMR in salt lake city(i think its like 2900ft above sea level). Like i said, we have served together, so im hoping for a close race. any ideas?

nitrous makes lancer go boom without internals, but you should have him pretty good

The nitrous is for the intercooler, not into the motor

Your car has more power, your friend's is lighter so he may jump on you at first but your trap should be faster.

Hill AFB?, I spent 8 yrs there, 4 with the 421st and 4 with the 419th. Date any mormon girls? They drove me nuts. Man I miss the mtn biking and bingham rides.

I thought SLC was more like 3800 - 5000ft

If you want to go big or go home, you should save all that money and get an Evo, imo. It will be much faster, far more enjoyable, and far more reliable than an ES with all those mods. It will have traction AND handling AND lots of horsepower with only minimal additional mods while not requiring the car to be "down" while having all those complicated parts installed. Also, having an NX intercooler kit is not the same as having nitrous; the name N20Lancer is a misnomer.

Please refrain from posting on my thread, since you havent looked at anything. The nitrous is a wet kit right now, hence the "14.8 with 120 shot" in my sig. Second, i can't afford insurance on an evo, third i dont want that much car. Fourth, dont hijack threads, thats rude also, i have another car, so i dont care about "down" time. If you have anything to say about the potential race, go for it. This is not a "should have gotten an evo" thread. If i had my choice, id get an opel speedster. "should got a pinto" "should have gone to korea instead of Kirkuk iraq" the possiblilites are endless.

Much love though

I didn't hijack anything; I was responding to your comment about going big or go home. You did ask for advice on engine internals, right? I don't see how that's considered going big when you say an Evo is too much car. What you're doing to the Lancer is far more complicated, dangerous, unreliable, and unlikely to work than if you just had an Evo with basic bolt-ons. Also, if your insurance ever found out about what you've done to the Lancer, it would get ugly. As for the nitrous, someone responded about it and you said it was only for the intercooler.

Anyway, I don't see how the N/A Civic could keep up with you on an intercooled turbo system. I know it has the hybrid engine and cams, but unless you can't drive (it appears you can), then it shouldn't be a problem. Just remember that with an S-AFC, you have the option of tossing in some race gas at the track and tuning for it while cranking the boost a few psi - it makes a big difference. I also wouldn't suggest paying someone to tune an S-AFC for you if you can avoid it. That's counter-intuitive, since the S-AFC is a self-tuning device. You can get on the dyno, do a pull, read the AFRs (and timing with a pocketlogger), then adjust the S-AFC accordingly, do another pull, rinse/repeat.

Insurance shouldn't be expensive on a brand new Evo. I pay a $75 monthly fee, full coverage (05 Evo). I can PM you with the info about my ins. company if u want

Anyways, be safe out there. I just came back from Iraq 4 months ago.

Ive had a few tickets..... When i got this car, i was at tech school in texas. I just bought a truck(1989 toyota boy!). I did the N/A thing(Neon), Nitrous(lancer), and now turbo(lancer agian). If i sell this car nd get a new one, it would be a late model RX-7. BUT, i dont want this thread to turn into that. Any one ever seen an LS/Vtec civic race? my buddy said the guys installing it says it will run 14's, but i HIGHLY doubt that. Rods and pistons are out, im getting a big plasma screen tv instead. I need to buy a decent tool set too. Thanks for the input thus far fellas!

The civic "could" be fast, depending on weight and set up/traction.

One of my old cars was a civic HB with a built B18 all motor that ran 12.7 @ 107 weighing 2450 with me in it on slicks.
