Another craptastic run
Another craptastic run
Well after half assed prepping the car to run (Still has boost leaks and now a fuel leak) I decided to bring it to the track to tune it. Anyways, turns out I still cant shift the car for crap even with a new twin disk. I dont know what the problem is with the car but anyways... the first run was an 11.48 @126 at 26 psi. I turned the boost up to almost 28 but blew an intercooler pipe off. I was planning on eventually running it at around 32 psi but needless to say that didnt happen... just another crappy day at the track. I really need to get this stupid thing running right.
Here is the slip info:
60' 1.772
330 4.998
1/8 7.543
mph 96.61
1000' 9.695
1/4 11.483
mph 126.03

Well I just thought a second about the whole shifting thing....
I have some crappy generic tranny fluid in the car right now (Generic Napa brand). Anyone think this might be the problem with the whole shift-no-lift shifting problem I am having?

Well, 126 is a great start. Can't wait to see what kind of trap speeds it makes once you get everything sorted out. Congrats.

Well I mean I was somewhat happy after the first run considering I wasnt trying to bang the gears and it was a horrid launch. I also have a very conservative tune right now. Pretty low timing and rich (11.5s). But after the second and third pass when first the IC pipe blew off, then it wouldnt shift... I wasnt happy to say the least.
Once I fix the little things here and there and start running real boost it should get alot better.
Another member, DragNRacing was there. He ran an 11.46 @121 (Pretty sure this is correct) on his new setup with the 20G. Very nice run from him.

I dont know what the problem was with the 60' times... last year I would at least run consistant 1.71-1.75s spinning out of the hole. Now the car somehow has wheel hop. The first launch was at 5750, the two after that were at 5900. I am gonna see if next time I can run it lower and try not to spin the tires but still build enough boost to get movin.
Try playing with tire pressure, and if that dosen't work a new motor mount may be in order as I'm sure you know.
As far as the tranny juice is concerned, I HIGHLY reccomend NEO SYNTHETIC RACING HEAVY DUTY tranny fluid. I have used them all in my Galant and NEO RHD was by far the best once it warmed up, it quite expensive though, 20 bux a quart!!. You can buy it from www.bakerprecision.com

Don't mean to thread jack, but how does the NEO compare to Redline or BG in terms of protection and shifting? Do you use it in the tranny and diff? TC? Thanks Petey T.
Oh, and TrinaBabe, that 126 trap is a NICE place to start! I hope you get all your bugs worked out and get that sled running to your satisfaction. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. If you ever get out to the Philly area give me a shout.

It was fun today even though the weather sucked and the track wasn't in the greatest condition. Good day for tuning. Hopefully the Rock will be better and your problems will be sorted out. I don't think 10's are going to be much of a challenge once you do.
I have a couple videos of your car. I will get them uploaded to the website and send you the link so you have them. I also noticed your car in quite a few of the photogallery shots on the GLD website.

As far as the NEO is concerned, I probably would only use it in the tranny for the EVO just because of the horror stories I have heard about using anything other then Diamond Queen in the t-case and rear diff.. I have used BG and redline both and really was not pleased with the results. I have also tried mixing my own with different friction modifiers ect. but NONE of them work like the NEO synthetic. It has friction modifiers already mixed in and you can see it settled at the bottom of the jug. The only tradeoff is that your tranny will be very notchy until your car is warmed up. But once it warms up the tranny feels like a totally different animal, shifts just seem much more solid and much less notchyness. I'm sure the level of protection is probably the best, being as though they use this gear oil in F1 cars..
