Strip Tomorrow;Launch Question Today

With mods I believe I'm running between 350 and 400hp. I have new (<1000 miles) Kumho Ecsta MXs and tried my first launches with them last night. Using 5-6K rpm with my Exedy HD Twin the tires would haze and I was gone. No bouncing, thank goodness just haze and go - once on a not quite level surface so I had to give a bit of steering input to keep her straight before total hookup.

I have my autocross rubber, Victoracer 700s. Should I change? I don't wanna screw up the drivetrain anywhere and am a bit afraid of instant hookup. What do you folks think?

Thanks.

I would just use the Kumho tires at the track. As long as they have the track prepped well........you should be fine. I cut pretty consistent 1.6 60' on conti extreme tires, but I also have the 2-step launch control which makes quite a difference.

The victoracers are r-comps for autocrossing not for drag racing. They are built with a stiffer sidewall to reduce flex in the tire. A drag radial is made to flex for launching, which is the opposite. Just use your street tires and lower the pressure until you hook.

What does "haze" mean?

Yeah I would use your stockers if you still have them. If not I would stay away from the r comps as well.

And yeah what does haze mean? I know a clutch can get glazed but I havent heard of haze when it comes to traction. You talking about peeling out?

Haze usually means to lightly smoke/spin the tires.

Ditto.

12.4 quarter. A real driver could have had 11's but I'm a rook ...

Again, I know there was time out there but people were breaking left and right. I opted not to take more runs at the end of the day. A talented driver could be in 11s I believe. Al thought so also when he flashed it last September.
