WTF !?!? 14's
WTF !?!? 14's
Went to GLD this past sat. and went home VERY upset. I ran only once off the tree ( 2 times against my buddies 03 cobra. He gave me 5 cars! haha) and bested a 14.4 at 99mph. 60' was a 2.6xx. This was my first time in my evo and it has a stock clutch and 49k on the odometer. I rode the hell out of the clutch in first and shifted at 7k. Ended up at the top of 4th by the 1320. Boost was only hitting 18.5. (hallmen mbc sucks! I'm goin electronic) WHAT IS GOING ON?! i'm hoping it's just bad driving. but wow, was i ashamed to have ran that in this car. Almost got me thinking crazy! For the most part i was just really nervous about running on my stock clutch and not knowing how to launch. My initial plan was to dog it out of the whole but once i got to the line i tweaked and revved it up to 5k and when the light went green i rode the damn thing and didn't go anywhere. Man was i pissed.

Tuned? If not, get tuned first. If so, check for boost leaks. Oh, if you keep riding the clutch, kiss your clutch goodbye. Do some reading in the forums for the best way to launch. The threads are everywhere. Shift at around 6500-6700 from first to second then the rest of the shifts at 7000. Practice is key. It takes some time to get the shifts and launching down. Good luck.
yup! suggest u do a boost leak check! been using Hallman BC for almost 9 years now, never fail to perform! you also needs to practise more on yr launch, 2.6 is hurting yr ET, bring it down to 1.9 and u will shave 1 second off yr ET.

Your 60's are HORRIBLE! -- 2.6? Oh my, search quick slip tech. Warrtalon posted up on his tech. Id suggest reading that. But in short, hold 6k, take the slack out of the clutch line, then walk it back - do not dog or ride the clutch - that will murder your clutch, esp. OEM.
Well Hallman MBC does not suck. If you were hitting 18.5 psi peak - turn it up - fixed.
You could use: a tune, new tires, practice.

Work on YOU first. Shep uses a Hallman MBC and runs 7's. You can't drive for crap and may have issues with the car, but learn how to drive first. 2.6 is laughable! Let me guess you're 18 too?
Well the all seasons are what suck, not your Hallman. My friend has a Hallman MBC and holds 28psi like a rock so no excuses there. You have a leak. Period. And I see you list all your mods but make no reference to a tune or AFC. That is also a big problem. The biggest of course is you driving. Get the car tuned and some descent rubber and practice and you should be in the 12s with those mods.

hell, as far as I know, my car and I probably run 20's or something. But I would have thought it's rather obvious that bald all seasons aren't the best thing to go drag racing with? they're great if you want to practice drifting but little use for anything else....
The all seasons aren't the problem, nor is the MBC. You only saw 18.5psi on the track, because you were never below 5500rpm, which means you were always seeing tapered boost. You probably see 20-21psi down around 3500rpm at peak boost, but by 5500rpm, it's tapered for 2000rpm. That's just how it is. To run more boost, turn it up. No reason to blame one of the best MBCs on the market.
Again, all-seasons, bald or not, are not why he ran slow. The car itself is weak, and he said he rode the hell out of the clutch. Then, if you notice, he was at the top of 4th at only 99mph in a 5spd, which means he burned the clutch so bad on the launch that it was slipping all the way through 4th. I've done this once recently where I tried launching at 7k with a hard slip just to see what would happen, and it slipped through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I ended up with a 12.7@103, but my RPMs were at the rev limiter in 4th, which is how I knew the clutch was STILL slipping.
He just needs a bunch more runs to get some practice, do a real launch, and get rid of the jitters. He'll run an easy 13 and maybe closer to 103-105mph or so. Btw, it's ironic how he was worried about his clutch, then he did the absolute worst thing he could do to kill it...haha.

WTF is that you don't know how to drive. Even a bad driver should be able to manage a 13.9 in a car capable of 100mph trap speeds. A good driver would be able to ectract a 13.5 and a really good driver could probably coax a 13.3 out of it.
1. You cooked your clutch at the line while making one of the worst 60' times I have ever seen on an Evo.
2. You adjusted your Hallman MBC a little too low and weren't making as much power as you could have. I'd recommend turning it up about 1 to 1.5 psi which would only be another 10-15hp, but more hp nonetheless.
3. Your cooked clutch continued to slip all the way down the track, and you still managed a 99mph trap speed. You have plenty of power. Now you just need to learn how to drive.
4. Your tires were NOT the problem. If they would have spun it would have saved your clutch. Once you learn how to drive though, they are gonna be a problem, so I'd plan on some new tires right after you replace that clutch you cooked.

.. practice practice practice and then buy a new clutch, and don't get a EBC
