What is "the secret" to fast times?

I don't want to buy Curt Browns Evo to figure out what the "secret" is to doing ungodly times in the 1/4 mile, so what things could be done for insane times??

Weight reduction?
Launch RPM's?
power shifting?

I don't get it. with most of us, you could throw a blanket around our times, and we would be fairly "close" in E.T. and Traps, with the occasional break away from the pack. how the heck can we get some other drivers who have the SAMEish Mods, SPANK us so hard, with awesome times? is there a secret? Hold the e-brake at the start? play Barry Mannilows greatest hits while launching? I am a novice drag-racer, but beg to ask the question, is there a "secret" way to get down the track so DAMN fast? "cheater nitrous"? It can't be practice alone, there has to be a way to do it. or a certain "style". Any input to get FASTER down the 1320 (besides practice?)

Ideal track condition
Ideal humidity
Ideal temperature
Proper tire pressure
Elevation
good driving position

Those are just some of the factors it comes to my mind besides the ones that you already mentioned.

to ET you need to go fast in the front 1/8th....10-11k rpms in 1st and 2nd with as much traction as possible...(IE. 1.4 or faster 60fts) but do it smoothly (slicks normally launch pretty smooth actually depending on which you run). most racers (oddly fast ones) will tell you the race is done lots of times in the front 1/8th

i am not really one to talk ...i don't think i have ever run my car while not wearing birkenstock sandels...lol. tire pressures and suspension setup is almost super important.... and keeping wind resistance under the car down.

I think a HUGE part is the shifting. Listen to Buschur and AMS' 8 second passes, they bang through the gears hardddddd. And when they dont....(miss shift, granny shift) its up into the 10's.

+1
Shifts, launches and a great tune are things you need, besides great weather (no humidity and cool temps)

Thanks for the tips guys, I will do some expeirementing. some say SOFTEN the coilovers in the rear, some say STIFFEN them up in the rear, and soften them in the front, it just gets confusing.

great springs/shocks = better 60's
great tires = better 60's
light weight rims , brakes = more hp to the ground
great trans/spped shifting = faster shifts

The same car with the same HP could do these NON HP mods and make up a lot of time/mph
the 60's times could drop to 1.5's from 1.7's and that .2 secs . The speed shifting/trans could drop another .3-.5 ?!! and so-on
So thats .5 - .7 sec off of your average 11.7-11.8 stock turbo time ......... hmmmmmm
Thats all the really quick drives will let on too , iam sure that less than 1/10 of what they really know
