IX MR new drag time
Firebird Raceway Phoenix AZ
2 gal 91 + 3 gal of 104
First pass Second pass Third pass
60' 1.706 1.754 1.690
1/8 7.798 7.858 7.745
mph 88.73 88.55 88.61
1/4 12.251 12.268 12.201
mph 105.73 111.78 108.34
1st run missed shifting in to fifth gear. That caused the low trap speed.
2nd run i did not shift out of fourth and it carried to 8300. probably not good
3rd run i made the fifth gear but slow shift.

Mike, those are excellent times, I compared my 1/8 mile times on my Evo 8 MR and they are basiclly identical however my trap speeds when I ran at Firebird were average of 112mph, I think your car is capable of higher trap speeds.
I am making the comment because we are in similar power and same gearbox set up. I normally cross the line in 4th.

yea, i just have to get the fifth gear good and fast or figure something out in fourth in tuning for higher rpm. Last time at the track i trapped 12.3 12.4 and 12.5 all with 110 to 112 holding out in fourth. I was trying fifth to get the et down this time and it worked but also brought my trap down.
Carlos. are you going to be at firebird tonight for the import vs domestic.

Mike,
Thanks for the invitation from last night and today to go to the track(Firebird). It is a tough decision but today there are two of my friends trying to be the first 11 sec Evos ever in Tucson.
One of the guys is Ray(rraulston) the other one is PJ(pjsevo8), they are both well capable of running 11's, they just need to get their a s s e s there and do it.
I will let you know.

Nice stuff, but I think something is wrong with either your tach or something else, because 8300rpm would mean MUCH higher trap speeds - somewhere around 118mph, if not higher.
Our stock limiter is 7606 rpm, and back when I was only using an SAFC, I kept getting stuck at 110.7mph in my MR due to that stock limiter. I eventually ran a 12.015@111.7 still with the stock rev limit, so that is basically as high as you can trap with 7600rpm. Your rev limit should be raised to 7800 or so, which would allow 114-115mph traps. I got flashed after that 12.01 mainly for the rev limit raise and never hit the rev limiter again with 113.xx traps and a 7800rpm limiter.
I would be very concerned if you're really hitting 8300rpm and are only trapping 111-112 - that does not add up.

8300 was the peak on the avcr which i reset before every race along with the peak boost on the defi.
boost really is never the same. it flucuates <spelling???> peak shows 2.12 but only in second gear according to the defi record. in fourth it hits 1.9 and falls to 1.6. I am in the process of a manual boost controller with also a wastgate upgrade i hope.
i wonder if lower traps would have anything to do with tire pressure?

If you lowered tire pressure, then youll trap lower because of more rolling resistance, thats unless you lower it JUST enough to get perfect traction at the line (which I doubt was a problem)
2.12 bar????! Were you really boosting 31psi?? If so, your traps are WEAK
That third run seems suspicious. I think you might've been knocking or pulling timing because you trap 88 mph in the 1/8 which is indicative of a fast evo, then in the 1/4 you didn't even gain 20mph and you didn't misshift, which is indicaitve of a weak stock evo. I gained about 22mph in the back half in a STOCK 8.

i had to go in to fifth, well dont have to but did to see if it made a difference. my trap speed is a very consistent 112 if i hold out fourth. shifting to fifth dropped my trap but also lowered my et.
also the 31 psi is a really only in second for some reason, something to do with the avcr. a manual will be coming soon and hopefully a better wastgate.

Boltz,
I also peaked 31psi on the Evo 9 with similar mods(minus intercooler, AVRC). He is not making much power after 26-28psi, his turbo is still boosting up to 31psi but as he explained that is just for a fraction of a second.
Based on his power and transmission gear ratios(both similar to my Evo 8 MR) he is bullseye on what his Evo can run in Firebird,Phoenix.
You guys are expecting to see fastest time but reality is different, statisticly proven (3 years and hundreds of testimonies) he is running his car in optimus condition, he is a experienced driver and he has 100 plus passes on that track alone, we really can't ask for much more, running at Firebird Raceway is really tough business.
As a spectator I attended SIR (Tucson) races last night and I was laughing my A S S off, there were two buddies running a C6 vette and a 06 Dodge Viper, the vette ran a best of 14.1 and average mid 14s and the Viper ran a best of 12.8 and average of low 13s.. you got to love Tucson International Raceway!!!!

Well the track is only @ 1250 so the elevation isnt that big of a deal. His 60's are great so traction isn't a problem. Was the track temperature super high?
Also, there is no way his car is running in "optimus" condtion like you mentioned. He trapped 88mph in the 1/8th and only gained 19.5mph in the back half while running race gas and a peak of 31psi of boost. We all know that if you are running that much boost on race gas/alky/meth will taper instantly after hitting peak, but the other people running setups like that are trapping AT LEAST 114(+++).
I know its harder out there to run fast because of the climate, but there is something wrong with his car if he is running that setup and going that slow in the back half. Maybe his AVC-R is setup poorly.
^^^ I might have to disagree with you on the elevation issue my friend. I raced in many tracks not just around the country but also in Europe. Track elevation is one of the biggest factor.
I know what you mean but every time I take the Evos to Phoenix I typically run .2-.3 sec quicker and also 2-3 miles faster. I ran my Honda civic in San Antonio at SAR and ran .5sec faster with much lesser mods, the 2300ft elevation difference made the car much faster.
Let me ask you a question, why do you think that in the history of AZ and since the Evo 8 and Evo 9 were launched there is no a single car except one that ran 11's on stock turbo? running a car in AZ is very difficult and that is why we haven't seen cars in the 11's.
Seriously, how much faster do you think he can get in the 1/8th of mile?an extra MPH. Only people that ran their cars in AZ are certain of what the capabilities are here, from anywhere around the country we seem to run slow.
Even people that dumped $45000 on their Evos and ran low 11's once(topnotchevo).

Who?, can you tell me just one person running 114MPH in AZ with stock turbo? Yeah, off course people are running 114MPH with similar setup but in the east coast and other parts of the country.

I am a great supporter of Mike, he is a cool guy and he has tons of experience, believe me, he is trying very hard to get his times improved and is not that easy. Unlike others, Mike goes to the track very often and one of the reasons is to improve in all aspects (shifting, reaction time and generally to get better). Remember, this is no his first Evo.
Honestly, if you think his 1/8 mile traps are low, then my question is: what type of trap speeds are you expecting for him on his 1/8 mile/1/4 mile?
