How did removing the factory 2-step affect your 60s?
I'm just curious how your 60s changed when you removed the factory 2-step? I have been using it for a year simply because
1. I'm used to a 2-step on every car I have had.
2. it makes it really easy for impromtu stoplight races
3. it makes it easier on me for cutting consistent lights on the tree
4. it keeps me from shattering my transfer case
Without it, I need to set up and appointment with the car 20 seconds in advance to get a good launch
The best 60 I have been able to manage is a 1.77 on my Hankook snow tires, but I have only done that once and that was spinning out of the hole. I can consistently cut 1.82-1.84 but I usually bog. I have managed to squeeze 12.90 - 13.0 every time at the track even with my 1.84 60s (it is an 05 GSR with no mods and 3480 lbs. with me and no gas).
So I unhooked it to go to the track last night but the track closed because of the cool weather. I went out and did some launches on different types of surfaces. I tried 5000, 6000, and 7000 with a slight slip, and the car just blows the tires off in first leaving thick black marks for 20 feet. The rear steps right really hard and it feels like it is getting out of the hole HARD!
I'm just curious to see what some of your experiences are as far as improving your 60s without the factory 2-step. I am going to plug my computer up and just raise it to 6000 or 6500 after I try this.

I did 3 runs with the 5k limiter still in place back when I first got the car and had no idea what it was. My 60's were 1.92, 2.4, 2.3 while scratching my head wondering wtf was keeping me from launching at 6k like I wanted to. That first run with the 1.92 was random luck that I even got off the line at all, and the result was a 13.17. The next two runs were 13.8-13.9 or so.
I came home and read up to find out that I could disconnect the switch, so I went back to the track, disconnected the switch, and hit a 1.76 60' en route to a 12.8@106.3, but this was with my old SAFC I that I had installed and tuned.
FYI, 3480lbs + 1.84 60' + stock does not equal 12.9 or even 13.0, so not sure how you're doing that.

I have run 12.9-13.0 at Indianapolis Raceway Park every Tuesday night all summer with 60s mostly in the 1.82-1.84 range, but I have managed to run 13.0 with 1.95 60s before at only 104 mph. My best ET was with a 1.77 60 foot, 8.2 @ 86 in the 1/8th, and 12.93 @ 102.9 in the 1/4. I supposed that isn't possible either right? Especially since you were only able to muster a 1.9 60 on your factory 2 step and I did 1.77 on my snow tires on the factory 2-step
To answer my own question I went to the track tonight and made three full passes. Here is the rundown from my first pass to the last:
60: 1.773
1/8: 8.234 @ 86.97
1/4: 12.887 @ 107.00
60: 1.805
1/8: 8.171 @ 87.72
1/4: 12.770 @ 107.93
60: 1.705
1/8: 8.104 @ 87.32
1/4: 12.739 @ 107.55
I suppose none of that is possible according to Warrtalon...so just to add insult to injury I'll add a few details about my 2005 GSR.
NO boost controller, NO flash, NO afc, $0 (read: ZERO DOLLARS) in power parts, 40 psi in my Hankook W300 Icebear tires, original air filter (ooo its dirty!!) and I still have a stock clutch line with the restrictor in place. Just to spice things up a bit...no I did not weigh 3480 when I ran these numbers tonight. Since I wasn't planning on heading to the track, I had a half tank of gas and my computer bag and golf clubs in the car with me...so with my 260lb fat *** I tubbed in at 3515. Not possible right?
I'm no superstar driver. I don't know any tricks. I don't full throttle shift, I granny shift. My first trip to the track when I bought my car was a 13.78 @ 98...hardly anything to write home about. I have just learned how to drive the car...thats all. Go ahead and tell me about how it can't be done because you didn't do it
i do the same with my car i put more air in the tires 38psi and i do 7000rpm launches and i have done a best of 11.8sec but with a g-tech pro(not sure how accurate) and i aint got cams yet but this was with race gas and 24psi of boost!
And let the games begin!!!!
Anyways... Im not doubting any of you at all. Ive seen low 13's on stock evos all day long, but does the little extra torque and HP that the 05's have really make that much of a difference? Ive just got lightly modded 03 and I know its fast, but i just cant imagine it running low 13's. Im glad ya'll are and yet again i dont doubt it at all im geniunely curious about how the 05 VIII and the 06 IX run so much faster than lightly modded 03 and 04 VIII's. I know the MIVEC on the IX along with the slightly redesigned turbo do it, but with the 05's is it really that big of a difference over the 03's and 04's?

Trending Topics
ive seen videos from best motoring in japan where they drag race a stock evo 05model and they do 7600rpm launches and they dump the clutch the times they post are 12.7sec the 400m!
if your gonna do this you must have the restrictor pill in the clutch and you must use a lot of air in the tires to get wheelspin=saves drrivetrain!!

I just get all hyped up when Warr posts because he never has anything positive to say...he just picks apart people's **** and it gets really old. This forum is here for us to share info and learn from each other, not to criticize and discredit people's accomplishments.

but he helps a lot of people in this forum and congrats on those times they are sick for a stock evo
Just Curious, i 'Though' that simply Un-plugging the Factory 2-step caused the ECU to Remove timing??
OH, and BIG CONGRATS on the 107mph!! Is this on a BONE STOCK '05??????? If so that's INCREDIBLE

I pretty much trap high 85's consistantly and an occasional 86 in the 1/8th, never have I seen 87mph though. But I have a full TBE, 24psi spike, cone intake & o2 housing for mods...
If you are being 100% honest then your car is a freak of nature and you drive like John Force.
