just make sure you talk your sti friend into two 12s and at least six amps in the trunk then buy him fatty dinners for a month while you rip your back seats out and go on a diet. then you'll win.

seriously, the only evo's or sti's that have been stock still had paper plates. mine, when i bought it three years ago, was only stock on the drive from the dealer to a local speed shop to get a timer and bov.

yeah yeah bovs are crap whatever all i know is with my scary blitz vta bov my otherwise stock evo pulled on my friends stock evo, which prompted him into getting an exhaust, which prompted me into getting an exhaust and a dp, then he blah blah blah etc etc. stocks overrated when a little bit of tubing attached to the back of the catalyst creates big hp gains.

I was watching this top gear video the other day where they compared the Evo 8, STi, and Audi S4 I believe and the Evo 8 beated the STi by a long shot.

I used to own an 05 STi (COBB Stage 1) and it feels like my IX MR (with a Works drop in filter only) is faster... also turns quicker, has better seats, and is just all around better Imho

I have never met another EVO owner or STi owner whos car has been stock for more than a month so but after driving an 06' Sti and getting back in my VIII before I modded it, my EVO felt a little faster. The EVO handles IMO a lot better than the Sti though.

well stock for stock they are pretty much the same car. it comes down to a drivers race, and being so close in performance (stock for stock) one bad shift can hurt the 1/4 time.

stock for stock it still a drivers race on the road course, though magazines have shown that the EVO is slightly faster, it isn't real world. There will always be someone who is a better driver.

thats my .02

Its definitely a driver's race...every year evo/sti is capable of low 13's out of the box. I've seen better traps out of the Evo's so I definitely believe they're more capable of breaking 12's in bone dry stock form vs the STi's.

That's it, but no magazine says this. Magazine drivers have trouble launching the 05/06 Evos due to the built-in 5k rpm limiter, and they only get 3 tries. The Subie is way easier to launch and has no limiter like that, so they pull better 60's, which give better ETs, but that's not indicative of reality, which can be seen at your local drag strip.
Warrtalon and I have bumped heads in the past, mostly because he's extremely blunt. That said, I do completely agree with his statement. Every magazine comparo I've read has had either one or the other ahead by a slight margin, (we're talking tenth's of a second, if that) however acknowledged that it typically was too close to call due to variables. After running my bro when he had his STi, I agree with Warrtalon that the Subie is MUCH easier to launch. In fact, it's almost violent. The Evo, even with a great driver, simply can't launch with the consistent ease of the STi (my opinion). When my Bro and I would run, the Evo would easily close whatever gap existed from my burdened 5K limited launch. From there, it was extremely close. The extra shifts of the STi made a difference and I would usually beat him, but not with any breathing room. Once modded, I could pull on him, even with a bad launch. His STi (not to say all STi's) didn't hold its mods well at all, and he evenutally sold the car.

Just know that you have no sure win here. You may be going home with empty pockets. The STi is a mean machine.

They are very similar stock for stock(04 and up). Advantage EVO as far as modding goes. The EVO is equipped with a larger turbo and iron block as opposed to STIs smaller turbo and Aluminum block. STI has more torque down low and is more progressive as far as turbo response goes. I really appreciate both cars for what they can do. I've seen tons of articles, tests, vids and sometimes the EVO wins, sometimes the STI. One thing's for sure--It's always VERY close.

I'm sorry but whoever did the write up of the EVO MR against the Sti is a fool. I like the Sti and all but "More fun than the EVO, tossable and more rewarding drive than the EVO." Are you kidding me? I've driven a few Sti's, 1 stock, 1 w/upgraded turbo and they are nice cars don't get me wrong but I like the EVO.

I think a Stock Evo 9 is a little faster than a stock Sti. With mods it's a different story.

I love the EVO and like the STI.....but I love my GC8 impreza much better, so it now has an STi swap.....on a 20G turbo untuned @ 1.0 bar I ran local 1/8th mile and did 7.75@91MPH.....Im happy with that!! Now I will be getting tuned and going back....that should be enough to hang with a lot of EVOs and STi's!!

Here is another example for those consider between STi and EVO regarding straight line speed.
We went to the drag yesterday at California Speedway. There were the same amount of evo as Sti which is around 10 each. Most of the evo ran 12.x, only about 2 of them ran lower than 13.0 (one is having turbo problem and other is only 700 miles). All of the STis ran 13.2 or below, only 1 ran 12.x. Not sure about the STis, most of them claimed to have some kind of Stage X mods on Nasioc. Some of the 12.x evos mods are only TBE and SAFC (mostly the Evo9).

Ya....its funny that people are always raggin on sti/evo owners about drag racing, but I think they do a great job!! There wasnt much out last night when I went but a stage 3 SRT4 that couldnt muster anything more than an 8.40 he had stage 3, fmic, meth injection, slicks!!
