First off it's a drivers race.

I've owned two STI's an 04 and 05 and my 05 Evo VIII.

My 04 stock STI was one of those special cars. Stock it was at least one car lenght faster than the 05 sti and any stock Evo we raced at that time. That car was a very fast stock STI but was vandlized badly and I sold it.

That said I had both the 05 STI and the Evo VIII for a while before I started to build the Evo. I sold the STI and for sure stock for stock same driver the Evo was faster.

Point is that each car Evo or STI if put on a dyno will differ in whp by as much as 20hp. It has been told to me by many tuning shops.

BTW I like the Evo better for all the same reasons that many of you already know.

In stock form they are both great cars and very close in overall performance.

Just my 2 cents.

had an 06 sti and 06 evo ix. STI "felt" faster (probably due to the torque) and was much easier to launch, but evo handles way better. Like everyone has mentioned, it's a drivers race.

The car that ran 12.80s @ 107 mph was in a magazine article from Motor Trend or something. That's one car, and undoubtedly a ringer....the same story that happened in 1996 when C&D tested the "new" Camaro SS. It was "supposed to be" the car you would buy from the dealership, but the engine was balanced, blueprinted, and machined to perfect spec. Yeah, it was "stock," but you're not getting a balanced/blueprinted engine when you go to the dealer. This motor was in perfect spec.

A buddy of mine owns an Evo IX, and it feels MASSIVELY faster off of a slow crawl....I mean, WOW, the MIVEC really does make a difference between having it and not having it. The car felt like a freighttrain, and I thought to myself, "Jesus Christ, this thing will walk my Cobb Stage 1 STi." A "road test" proved otherwise. The STi was clearly faster on the top end, but like I said, I was running a Cobb Stage 1 tune.....it's good for about 25 hp/40 ftlbs tq at the crank, according to Cobb.

Sure, it's going to come up that the STi isn't stock, but all I'm running is that tune and a K&N drop-in. On an AWD car, I doubt much of that 20 hp/40 ftlbs tq is getting to the wheels once the parasitic loss from the AWD comes into play.

As soon as I get a chance to meet up with him, I will unmarry the Cobb Stage 1 and we'll run stock for stock. I'm not one to skew results, so if his IX MR wins, you'll know about it. I'm not going to sit here and lie about it just as a way to save face for Subaru. I've never waved the blue and gold colors, and its very unlikely I will in the future.

ah!! The EVO vs STI both great cars. a lot of storys and test the evo wins most of the time. the evo got better and the sti is always chosen as the daily driver. I like um both, the evo just get compared a lot more than the sti.

It's just one of those things that's always going to be debated.....just like the Camaro Vs. Mustang.

Personally after driving EVO's and STi's I would choose an STi for daily driving, the low end torque is nice and the ride is smoother IMO. The EVO's suspension is a lot tighter and the boost kicks in like a hair up a donkeys A@@. They are both nice cars, both have similarities and differences. I like interior finish of the Subaru better than the Mitsu except for the non-bolstered seats. Whenever I drove the Sti though it felt heavier and bulkier than the EVO. At least all the Sti owners I've met are cool and actually appreciate both cars unlike most Mustang/Camaro owners I've met.

The Evo and the Sti are two cars that are so similar yet so different from each other at the same time. They are great it just depends on your personal opinon. I have an Evo IX MR and several of my buddies have STI's. I have always loved the STI (even before i got an evo) and still think it is an awesome car.

I've said this a million times, and I'll say it again. For a daily driver and a car that I don't plan on modding the Hell out of, it's STi/STI all the way; for me, anyway. I plan on doing a few little mods like a TBE, CAI (maybe), the ECU tune, and the basics, then continue with some suspension mods.

If I were out to build a straight-up racing machine which I wanted tons of hp out of, I would choose the Evo every single time. I wasn't looking for a race car. I was looking for an awesome daily driver that I could mildly modify for a reasonable price and have a lot of fun. A stock STi/STI is not slow, and a mildly modified one is pretty damned quick; at least quick enough to have a very respectable street machine that does it all (mid/high 12s).

As for Camaro/Mustang owners, the ones I've met all have a level of respect for the STi/STI, Evo, and Supra, but the respect ends there. Honda? Forget about it. Nobody respects a Honda.

One of my main reasons for choosing an STi or an Evo was because they felt so raw, almost like an American Muscle Car. They're loud, raucous, attention-getting, and grin-inducing. There is nothing more satisfying than rowing through those gears, all the while experiencing the mechanical feeling of the car, the howl of the gears and the turbo, and the growl of the engine. It's what the car hobby's all about (for me). The STi and the Evo are pure driving experiences. I don't take a "ride" in my STi. I take a "vacation."

+1 for me on the Evo. After driving both, I've come to this conclusion, and again, I've said it a million times, and I'll say it again. The Evo is like a scalpel. It's all about precision. The STi/STI is like a steak knife. It's more about slicing and dicing. In the end, you still have the same slab of meat and achieve the same result, but the Evo's cuts are much prettier.

While the Evo likes to be "coaxed," the STi likes to be "forced."

SININSTER SUBARU, I agree with you 100%. If it weren't for the fact that I knew I was going to eventually heavily modify my EVO I would be driving an STi right now. I like the fact that an Sti owner and an EVO owner can almost always get along. When it comes to Honduh's and VW's its always about who is better. At least we all know that having an EVO or an Sti is a sweet deal.

I get along with a lot of Evo owners. I had what turned out to be an EvoM GTG at my place 2 weeks ago.
