Thumbs down MIR: What a waste of time...

Just spent 7 hours at MIR (Maryland International Raceway) and let me tell you... what a freakin waste of time. The owner of that place must be rich from nickling and diming idiots like me. You pay $30 and only get 3 runs the whole day. Most of the other guys that were out there for TnT only got 2 runs in thanks to the V8s that you can't even stand next to without getting a headache breaking down and leaking fluids all over the track And the funny thing is we end up paying for the clean up while the V8s get to run 8-10 times thanks to made up events like "Gamblers Race" for sub 11 second cars while the day is supposed to be about testing and tuning

Got to spoke to the owner at the end of the day once I found out (after waiting to be called for another run with 10 other guys for 3 hours) that we were not going to get to run because they had 5 sessions of "Gamblers Race" back-to-back and the track was to be closed at 6pm WTF? He told me that they made an announcement that there was a "possibility" that we weren't going to get to run due to all the clean up. Funny enough, me and 10 other drivers missed that announcement and ended up waiting to be called for an extra 3 hours!!!

What gets me is that we actually drive an hour to a track that clearly favors muscle cars over imports with all the events that are set up, and the only answer that the owner could give me when I ask him why its called Test n Tune when its really a sort of bracket racing set up for sub 11 second cars, all he can tell me is that the $30 I paid only entitles me to 1 run, and if I got that run, then I shouldn't be complaining... Well, I could rant about this for an hour but I just wanted the reader to take what he/she can from my experience and make their own decision on MIR. As far as I'm concerned, they'll get whats coming to them from visitors like me, which is NOTHING from now on

Thanks for reading

wow that really sucks. Only 3 runs for 30 bucks? I know my local track here which might not be as nice as MIR But we pay 14 bucks to race on test n tune nights and get to run as many times as you can. And believe me i know how frustrating it is to wait on clean up from all the older race cars that leak fluid and what not but hey i guess thats part of racing!!!

Moroslow in south florida is like that, they suck at preping the track too, its slick as hell and no one hooks up well.

Well, I have no complaints about the clean up / track crew at MIR. I think they do a great job prepping the track, but their organizational skills are among the worst. I really believe that they make things up as they go. Obviously it comes from the top down...

Anyways, I'll be going to Richmond from now on. Their track is not as "upscale" as MIR but you get your money's worth, and actually get to run 5-6 times. Plus, they tend to get more imports and street cars. Now I know why

It seems like the same thing happens here in the Chicago area and surrounding. The more expensive tracks are always more busy, like RTE.66, and that means you get way less runs.

The cheaper tracks like Byron and GLD are much better.

damn guys. my track is like 15 for drivers, 3 for spectators and free runs from 4pm-10pm

plus they have a coupon on their website that cuts some of that 15 dollars off.

ya moroso sucks...

up at bradenton once a month it was imports only... and you run back to back as many times as you want.... its a good way to need a new clutch =-p

on normal 5 hour nights. the first hour is only for test and tune and you can go 4 or 5 times and the last hour is the same.. during the 3 hour period ya probably get 3 runs in..

so they have things a little more worked out and organized.
thats how all tracks should be.. but they never have as many bracket cars.. a lot more test and tune compared to other tracks ive been too

cheers!

Fayetteville Motorsports Park, NC. Is my favorite 1/4 mile track I have been to. If you go on a freaky friday "the first friday of every month" it is really busy and you wont get alot of runs in. But it is 10 dollars to run as much as you want on all of their test and tune days, you can literally run down the track and turn around and run again and again and again, its fun. Their track prep is really good, and they dont have a bunch of bull**** rules.

Thats why I usually rent MIR annualy and get 8-12 cars to run all day long. Its very much worth the 100 bucks per car. Last year we have few EVO's coming and some of them ran over 20 times and one ran 30 times. As soon as i finish my new setup im renting MIR again. If you are interested send me a PM so I know how to contact you next time we rent.

wow man that sucks! the one track we have here is a $20 entry fee and you run as many times as you want. test and tune is usually from about 10am to 3pm but there are normally a bunch of v8's and actual drag cars there but the crew does a good job of giving everybody a chance to run
