What RPM shifts?
Famous last words...
You said it was your first time with the Evo, so how do you know that you "shifted fast." Fast is a relative term. This is fast shifting on a 12.30@107.99 with 1.72 60' and similar pucked clutch, not to mention this even includes a shift to 5th:

Yea I have similar mods to you with cams, TBE, hard intercooler pipes, and MBC but i ran a 12.3 at 113 without a tune. You need to go through your car/tune to determine why your trap is so low.
Depending on how you shift the car, single disc cerametallic puck clutches set off the knock sensor more than organic clutches. If you are "Banging" the gears, it can slow you down.
I agree with Warr and would only also add that just because you're cammed doesn't mean you should be winding out any further just because you can. Your stock turbo will run out of breath long before you reach the red line.
Get on the dyno and figure out where your shift points should be. Work on the launch & shifting.

I shift @ 7400 or 7500 with my RS IX. Def. shift to 7500 in Second. First is more like 7200 ~ 7300 rpm. I pulled off my best time shifting around these marks...
60' is poor. You should be getting at least 1.7s. You're elite when you can hit 1.6s with a stock EVO
I actually learned how to drive AWD on my 02 WRX & 05 STi, before i got the 06 RS. So i have about 4 years experience launching and shifting. The WRX and STi are a little different. The STi was a no brainer drop (with a tad of slip).. it was nearly bulletproof. The WRX, i launched in boost around 6200 rpm's, all the wheels lit up real nice and smooth, the launch was fantastic. Never had a problem with the trans, it ran great for the time I had the car with 100s of launches!
Took me a while to trust myself and the car. But either you launch or you don't launch. Don't get scared and bog the hell outta it. You can fry something other then your clutch or wheels!

I personally shift a little higher though, but i don't know which EVO and or MODS he has... but whatever rpm's works for him and his car to obtain optimal times and not not whining out the turbo... Surprised the other car got him on the launch, unless he was being patient and trying to obtain a good time regardless of a dragrace, or it looks like the other guy red lighted... dunno...

You shift too high for your IX.
I shifted low, because I'm at 6000', which causes my power to peak at 5200rpm and fall from there, so I shift at 6300 or so. I make almost no power beyond that rpm. At sea level, I would shift at 7100 or so.
He didn't beat me off the line - it was a bracket race where his dial-in was 3 seconds slower than mine. You see my 12.38 dial-in on the window. I ran a 12.30 and broke out, because I didn't let off at the end. I cared more about getting my best time than winning.
