Drag racing questions(video)
When I drag raced my MR last year, I noticed on the video that everytime I shifted the nose dove down. If I stiffen up the suspension, do you think I could get better times? This is my first time drag racing, so any tips and tricks would be cool. My worst time was 13.6, and best 12.7. Best trap was 108.4. Thanks, here is the video. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...91770265&hl=en
I don't have a way to scan them, but my best 60' was 1.893. But they are between 1.893 and 2.109 The night I raced was the last race of the season, and they were having some problems with the 60' lens getting fogged over. So, most of my time slips don't have a 60' or 8th mile number.
Oh, well, instead of worrying about suspension, which should be great on a stock MR, you should worry about launching. 1.9-2.1 is pretty awful, so keep working until you are doing consistent 1.7s. If you cut a 1.75, that 108.xx will be a 12.5.
If you're bogging all the time, then you're launching it like a FWD - not enough RPM. Launch no lower than 5k rpm with a quick slip of the clutch.

Well, I wouldn't worry about the suspension, but from the Tein springs I have been running it blew my front struts. So, I have been looking at coilovers. When I had my car flashed, it only lets me launch at 5000 rpm. What should I raise it to?
What flash do you have that didn't change the launch control? Almost every major tuner out there raises it at least to 5500, I thought. Dynoflash puts them all at 6k, but will adjust by request. We can also all change it ourselves with EcuFlash, which is great. I change mine each time I race according to the traction levels for the day.
Oh, so you're one of the examples I've been looking for so that I can convince noobs not to buy "lowering springs," since they can ruin the struts. If you don't plan on autocrossing or road racing at a high level, then get a set of Megan coils for $850 shipped (or so), and get them setup properly. Just remember that an aggressive alignment for twisty racing will not be optimal for drag racing, so be sure to keep that in mind.
You should raise your limiter to whatever rpm works for you. Apparently, 5k doesn't work for you - doesn't work for me either. I usually keep it at 6k...

Thanks Warrtalon. There is a thread on EvoM about springs killing struts. I liked my stock Bilstein struts, but is cheaper to buy a set of Megan coilovers. I will look into the Ecuflash also to raise my launch.
It's free for EcuFlash, but the cable is $90. It's well worth it, though.
Yeah, I know there's a thread, but I like to get as many examples as I can. It seems like everyday, we have some new guy asking about what "lowering springs" he should put on his Evo to make it look better. Drives me crazy...

What is really killing you is your launches. They are by far not agressive enough, it looks like it bogs down on the start. After watching you racing a FWD and a RWD car there is absolutely no doubt that one of your defects is your launch.
Secondly your shiftings sounds Ok, I might be judging unfairly just by the sound but it sounds like it takes while to catch up with the next gear.
I am not critizising you at all, everyone at one point sucked until they got better. From my observations there is no other cars except other Evos with good drivers that can't touch me on my consistent 60' but that is just my opinion, I am sure many other Evo owners feels the same way I feel, you can virtually smoke any competitor car and you are not an exception so what I mean with this is that you can also outrun and outlaunch 99.9% of the cars you race. That is just the nature of the Evo.
Good luck!

i wanna know what exactly a quick slip is, sometimes I bog sometimes I let out to quickly and my tranny lets me know..
is 1.7's possible with stock clutch.
I have numerous times at 6K launch got 1.8's but never 1.7's
Guess I suck
Here is a video not to ***** on a thread, but didn't bog, but I think I had slight traction issues.

Yes, 1.7s are possible and are expected. Some people have gotten 1.6s on the stock clutch, but that is not expected. A quick-slip, which has been explained thousands of times in other drag racing threads, is where you start off by lightly slipping the clutch until you remove the drivetrain slack and then you hammer it. 6k may overpower the stock clutch, so be wary of that.
