I finally got to race my car at the track!
It has been years since I ran at a track. I drove down to Sacramento raceway in California.
I had some problems at the top end my mph is good but my times didn't show it. I think I was shifting out of my powerband. I would shift at 7400rpm.
What would be a good rpm to shift at in a stock 05 VIII MR?
2nd. Pass
Reaction: .245
60' 1.835
330' 5.373
660' 8.334
MPH 83.531
1000' 10.911
1/4 13.058
mph 108.639
I know I can't tell exactly what my power band is unless I practice. I'm not sure if we have an all wheel drive dyno up here in reno, nv if we do let me know please? I don't think the run was all that bad. The car only has a drop in filter and a HKS SSQ blow off. My fastest mph that day was 108.977. I feel I should have at least broke into 12's but just couldn't do it. Any advice; always welcome. Thanks

If your completely stock other than a filter those are some great times! A lower 60' would put you well into the 12's. Thats a pretty insane trap though for a stock car. Was there a tail wind that day? Your trapping 3-4mph faster than the new IX's.
As for shifting if your truly stock then you should be shifting right around 7000 in every gear.

Thanks for the input and also I haven't tuned it. I want to get a mbc and then tune the car. It was really weird, I ran fastest times then some of the other Evo's that had better mods done like TBE and reflashes. It's probably the driver and knowing the car.
Very hard to believe on the trap speed. Especially with the 2 mods you just got and on stock boost
Where you able to duplicate that trap?
What did you ran last time you went to the track?

Hmm, this may help the other outrageous results we saw from the last guy who posted numbers from Sac. This would be the fastest stock VIII in the world BY FAR, and I highly doubt that really is the case here, especially when it has the worst BOV you can put on an Evo. On that note, why in the hell do you have an HKS SSQV as your only mod? That's a terrible decision.
Anyway, the last guy said the density altitude at Sac when he went was -1000'...yes, that's NEGATIVE ONE THOUSAND FEET. That really helps with power, but trapping 108+ with poor driving is EXTREMELY unlikely. The other guy's numbers were hardly believable, but we gave him the benefit of the doub.t Now that we have a guy in his first try with a poor 60' trapping way higher than any other stock Evo EVER has trapped, it starts to put the Sac timers in question. I also say this, because a 108 trap would be a 12 all day long even with a 1.83 60'. I ran 12.30 @ 107.99 with a 1.72 60' here with a density altitude of 9000'. That 1 tenth of 60' and better shifting does not equal over 7 tenths in the 1/4, especially with a lower trap speed.
Shift every gear around 7000. MR2u gave you shift points that are way too high. No idea why he'd say to shift 3-4 at 7500 - that's even too high for cams on most cars. Work on the launch, too. 12s are a given with a 1.7 60'...

I'm starting to think the last 66'ft timers aren't averaging the speed.
But just getting the last timed speed at the end of the 1/4. Or not spaced right.
Is this possible? Or are the timers just messed up?

sac is a very fast (unsafe unkept... NHRA determied that years ago) track its not really a fair comparision to anything else.... Go to infenion and you'd be a lot closer to 13.3-.5 @104-106
Had a chance to run yours at Infineon lately? Agree with poor Sac track conditions.
