Dude, how do we know? You have to figure that on your own when you're out there. It's totally dependent on how fast you're going, where you're powerband is, how fast you shift, and whether your keyboard is broken or not (HELLO CAPS LOCK).

That's some funny stuff saying you can't remember and want us to remind you. Holy cow...

dude what the f*##? do you talk **** on everyones thread? if you dont know just keep out, and if i want to use all caps dont worry about it. who the hell cares? anyways...
i have basic bolt ons, it doesnt matter how fast i shift(say its average shifting) what gear i cross is based on the tansmission gearing, and i have a IX rs.
so i would like to hear from anyone with a ix 5speed and basic bolt ons and tune
( that have run in the 1/8 to see what gear they cross in. thats all...
thanks..

Orly? I guess you've never seen the rules:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/announcement.php?f=69

Where it states, "Posting in all CAPS is forbidden. If the majority of a message is determined to be made up of CAPS it will be deleted and the user will be warned."

Yeah, if you want to do it, go ahead. Who the hell cares what the rules say?

Yes, it does matter how fast you shift, but I can see that you don't understand why. No, what gear you cross is NOT based on the gearing alone - it depends on how fast you're going when you get there. You didn't really think every IX RS with the same "basic bolt-ons" crosses the 1/8th at the same rpm did you? That's crazy. If you run an 8.5 @ 80, you'll definitely be in 3rd. If you run a 7.7@90, you might have to go to 4th. Just because your rev limit is set to 8000, it doesn't mean it is best to stay in 3rd that long. It could be faster to shift to 4th at 7000 depending on all the factors I've mentioned, which includes HOW FAST YOU SHIFT.

see that's the kind of answer I wanted to hear. I realize that you know a lot about the forums and even more about our cars. don't bash on me, like you did at first. the reply you gave on your 2nd answer is perfect! I did not know about the all caps rule but now I know and I thank you.
last time I was at the track I did a 7.7xx but I could not remember my mph? I'm sure it was under 90mph. so now I know I can cross in 3rd or shift into 4th like you said. next time I go I will try both and see which works better for me. I've always thought staying in gear is better than shifting because of how long it takes to shift, but you make sence in trying 4th.. well see. once again, thank you..

Honestly why does it matter what gear your in anyways? You dont really get a downside till you have to shift to 5th. If you get to your shift point, 7000-7200rpm's and there is still track left then shift!

5th gear at a 1/8 mile track? that will never happen... its either 3ed or 4th.. and warr. makes a good point. I can cross in 3erd or shift into 4th. ill just have to see what works better.. but thanks.

see that's not true. I shift at about 7300rpm and my rev limet is set to 8000. so if I am coming to the end of the 1/8 mile in 3erd gear with only 60 feet left and I'm at 7300 rpm it would make no sence to shift because the time used on a shift would be more than just staying in gear and crossing. that would make a big difference.. get my point?

True, but theres a big difference between a couple hundred rpm and needing to run it out to 8k. Also depends on how fast you shift, the power you loose running it higher then 7400rpm's or so on a stock turbo is substantial.

good point! but that's why I got a 35r so I could rev to 8k! ill be installing it and tunning it next week so I wanted to go with my stock turbo b4 then but if not it will be on the 35r.. so well see. if I do go with the stock turbo ill try in 3red and 4th and see which works better. but thanks for your input!

This is exactly why I said it depends on how fast you shift, because that may determine whether it's better to stay in gear or make the shift. All the factors play together, but the bottom line is that YOU have to figure it out. No one can tell what gear is best - it's for you to determine just like you did the last time you went.

You never mentioned the GT35R before now either. With that turbo, I said rag it to 8000.

if I get a chance to go with the stock turbo ill try both ways, if not ill definitely run it to 8k with the 35r. nonetheless, thanks for the input.
