My old WRX used to make a WOOOOOOOOOOOOO sound from either the hood scoop or the mirrors way up in fourth. But topping out fifth, you guys are nuts. You have a lot more ***** than I do, closed racetrack or not.

Its a pretty good testament to how robust the 4G63 is to sustain high rpm and EGTs for as long as it would take in fifth.

I got old and quit that kind of stuff; I've never been anywhere near that fast.

street this evo, ill check that too. although regardless of whether its the mirror, or the windshield trim, or even the vent below my hood scoop (im missing two clips to hold it tight so that could be causing the sound as well) im confident that its nothing mechanical. i was leaning towards the windshield trim since it wasnt snapped down tight, but who knows until i do another test. thanks again guys.

The belt turning is related to engine speed, not vehicle speed.....so if it slips at say.....6800 rpm's, wouldnt you think it would do it at 6800 rpm's in any gear??

Well by gearing... the stock 5 speed gearing should only go up to 174mph at 7500rpm. if i remember correctly

that's assuming your on the stock tires etc

there is more load on the engine at that high of a speed so that would play a factor in belt slip at high speeds.

its not the belt slipping..it is the rubber around the window....at high speeds it tends to trap the air and create this sound...i hear it alllllllllll the time when i go beyond 220km/h

good luck

Yes, more load on the ENGINE.....crankshaft.....not the accessories, which would have NO effect on the belt!

This question might be insane but I have a curious mind.....I have an Evo and I had it to 153-155 turning about 7000-7100 rpms. Then it kept on pulling even while I was inside the redline so it got to about 7300 rpms and I backed off. StreetThisEvo you had a personal record of 170 turning 7800 rpms do you have any valve work done like springs, retainers, or anything like that. I know you can turn that rpm in a lower gear because its quicker but 5th gear WOT takes longer. So can the engine substain that rpms and still be ok?
