Bouncing off limiter in 4th!
Today at the track, my brother and I wanted to test the new setup on his Evo IX. But we ran into a problem. His limiter is set at like 7800 rpm and the car was bouncing off of it in 4th gear for the last 50-60 yards making his trap speed only 116.5mph.
I know the only way we can really fix this is to raise the rev limit, but the motor itself is basically stock (outside of GSC S1 cams) and we don't want to run into and engine failure in the future. Or are we being too conservative? Can we rev it out to 8000 RPM without issues? He doesn't road race the car or anything like that. Its just a daily driven Evo that once in a great while will see a drag strip.
Which raises another good question, how far do we go for that great time slip? Will raising the rev limiter, going with taller tires, changing gear ratios really make the car any faster on the street? Or will it only show good track times?

I raised the rev limit to my 9 to 8200. I shift at 8k in 1st to 3rd and rev out 4th. I still hit the rev limiter through the traps but now its at 125mph
BTW the only thing I put in the motor was cams all else is stock.
