gt-35r times

Hey everyone.
Ive started going to the local 1/8mile track to get as much seat time as possible and try to learn my car befor i run race gas.

My current set up is an Ams35r with stock ecu, all supporting mods and no cams.
I already know that nobody runs this turbo on pump and its not worth it at all. I dont plan on running only pump gas im just doing it to get seat time, but still would like to know if my times are as good as they are going to get of if i still have room to improve. Once i get enough seat time ill run race gas and see what shes got.
On straight 91octane and a very conservitive tune the car made 374whp and 294tq on a dynojet

my times range from 7.82-7.95 at around 91mph
60'foot times are around 1.75-1.85
I know i have plenty of room to improve on 60' times i just have to find the right combo. its hard launching with under 300tq... Tire psi has always been 30 all the way around, this thursday i will try 25psi because ive been getting a little wheel hop. 2step is set at 6200.

I feel this setup should be good for 7.5-7.6 on 91 pump. Is that possible or am i crazy? My stock ecu/block goal is to be able to do 7.5xx on straight 91 and 7.0-7.1xx on c16.

I would love to hear from anyone that has ran a 35r or any big turbo on straight pump.
Any input would be greatly appreciated/
Thanks.

try inflating ur tires a little more.. like an extra 10psi,that should help you get off the line faster

Trap speed is nice... Shifting seems decent, work on that launch a little bit and youll do well..

Remember when you run the race gas youre gonna make more power and youll have traction issues, those are harder to deal with lol youll see =-)

I disagree,

"Wheel hop can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control. "

In my opinion, wheel hop is best controlled by the way you launch the car. I imagine since you are wheel hopping you are not slipping the clutch enough initially.

Thank you very much for you input!
my best time so far was 30psi all the way around. This is what the timeslip looked like

RT .551
60' 1.807
330 5.105
1/8 7.828
mph 90.06

on other passes with the same 30psi all the way around i also got a best 60' of1.757 and best mph of 91.01

I tried lowering the tire psi to 25 all the way around and did worst at the track. best run of the night was

RT .751
60' 1.850
330 5.157
1/8 7.906
mph 90.52

I guess lower psi didnt work so next time i go out ill try 35-40 psi all the way around and see what i get.
once again thanks for your input!
Once I get my coilovers ill put in some c16 and see what she does.

I agree with you 100%
there are many factors when it comes to wheel hop.
Hopfully ill get my coilovers in soon because im on some crapy tien s-techs and i know those are not helping..
thanks for your input! ill report back when the coilovers go in.

hello guys..

i run a old Galant VR4 over here in Malaysia..which you'd call an E39A..prob the great great grand uncle for EVO's..

i've complete buildup engine running with 35R (0.82 housing) on pump gas and make 557 on all 4 wheels. And it's daily driven...

we don really have a purpose built drag strip over here..and the best we could test our times are when the Sepang F1 circuit opens it's door for us every 3-4 months and they have some reall crappy timing equipments for DRAG racing...furthermore the track isn't built for drag racing as well.

Oh well...hope my 2cents info helped.

Cheers.

wow.,. i know you have a built engine but what octane is your "pump gas" that you can make 557hp?
that must be very nice!
So do you have any kind of 1/8 or 1/4mile times??

in malaysia we have 97 octane over the pumps..

didn't have much chance to get on the track yet..in Oct we had some shifter problems, so it's been fixed now and the only chance i could have a go on the 1/4 mile is probably Mar 2008...after the F1 season..for now the track is closed...

I don't run my car on the strip I run it on the road course and street .

The car is made to turn, acceleration is only part of the thing the evo can do, not the most impressive at all.

Quicker, no....FASTER, YES.....You are right!
All this does is allow the tires to spin, and if they're spinning they're NOT going to hop. Your trap speed will go up and your time may go down lightly.

Your times to your pressure adjustments dont make sense. You didnt launch the car the same OR didnt shift the same.

Heres why, When you lower your air pressure, what happens.....Your tires have more surface area touching the road thus better traction. BUT, this hurts at the top end, why, because there is more contact on the road it, and it slows you down because its not as easy to roll down the track....Extreme example: Driving with flat tires.

IF you put more pressure in the tires they are now easier to roll and spin, because its not as big of a contact patch on the road. Thus, less traction at the line but more MPH.

__________________________________________________ _______________

Try this....Lower the front to 22 and the back to 18. Then launch it....your going to go 7.5 at 89-91 with a 1.6 60' if you can really drive the crap out of it....probabally 7.6 @ 89-91mph. Work on your shifting and driving the car, that's the best mod you can have and it FREE. Most of the people that have these cars cant drive them. With the power your msking you should be trapping slightly higher....92.X. Im running better times and the same mph as you with a stock turbo and making like 25whp less. Im cutting 1.7 60' with 35psi (street tire).....It should go high 1.5's or LOW 1.6's with this tire pressure change.

I hope this helps if your have any other questions pm me and ill do what I can to help....
