Question To filter or not to filter

I'm wondering how many of you remove you intake filter on the track?

The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of removing my filter tonight at the track (our track like others is very free of debris) I'd like to know if anyone has had problems after doing this? Is the gain not worth the hassle? (not that it's a big hassle to take off the filter and put it back on a SRI)

I've seen pros run without filters. Of course, they rebuild their motors usually after every 3 or 4 passes. I'd say you shouldn't do significant damage for the first 5 seconds or so if you are lucky.

Dude, don't remove your filter. Don't do it. There is just too much at stake and unless you have a ton of money to blow, I don't know why you would take that risk. What happens if the guy in the lane next to you runs faster than you do and when he is about 5 car lengths in front of you, his motor blows or he pops a tire, throwing depris right at your unfiltered engine? Granted, most air filters won't think about stopping a chunk of rubber, but they will stop a momentary oil spray.

Treat it like you would a bank robery or getting married. Think about it long and hard before you do it and weigh the consequences.

Track or no track removing your filter is a bad idea.
