It DOES depend on the powerband, but typically if you shift around 7100, you will start the next gear at ~5500. 5500-7100 gives the most average HP. You don't want to shift at a point where you're already at peak hp in the next gear. You want to straddle peak hp so that your average hp through the gear is highest.

i'm going back to the track this sunday. I plan to shift @ 7k the entire day. The temperature is going to be way up compared to the last time i was there so i doubt i'll be able to conclude anything unless I go UP in mph.

Now that i've got a bit more miles on the new setup, i can tell even on the street that 7k may be the best place to shift; maybe even less???

I ran a 12.53 @ 108.3 with the exact same mods. I didnt know the mph was so different with the MR's, I mean where everyone else is saying it should be. And I shift at 7700

^^^Just now saw this. This makes me feel a little better

I've getting 18inch wheels and running 245/40/18's tires. I'm hopping this will in some way contribute to my mph without hurting my et (we can all dream right?). I think i'm running out of gear with my current set up of 245/40/17....

245/40-17 would be poor for an MR, because it shortens gearing even more on something that is already too short (for drag). 245/40-18 will improve gearing for sure.

Awesome, that's what i was hoping to hear. Right now 1st gear is a joke and i was sooooo beyond peak hp (rpm) going through the traps it wasn't even funny. The tires seem to be great for a 5 speed though.
