how tough is the tech at the DSM shootout?
how tough is the tech at the DSM shootout?
I attempted to post this question on Buschur's forum on his website but I apparently don't have posting permission yet.
I want to run EX, rules copied below:
-----------------
EVO X (EX)
-Heads up class. Pro tree. LANE 5
-This class will be for ANY EVO X's.
-NO Nitrous, full interiors, full exhaust, DOT tire 140+ treadwear or higher. Stock appearing turbos only.
-All EVO X cars will qualify, time trial and race from LANE #5.
-On your windshield you will put in large print, EX followed by the number from your tech card. This is your class/car number for the day.
**IF your EVO X does not fit these class rules you can run in the standard EVO Eliminator class, Q16 or one of the bracket classes.
------------------
How tough is the tech in process? Is it standard NHRA rules? IE, helmet at 13.99, roll bar / five point harness at 11.99, certified cage / window net at 9.99, etc?
Factory rear mounted battery, does it require a cut off switch?
Scatter shield / driveshaft loops? Does anyone even make these for Evo 8-9's, much less an Evo X which is six months old?
I can run ANY fuel? This is a new concept for me since other classes I ran before had a spec fuel and a fuel test.
Does a stock appearing turbo mean a stock appearing exhaust manifold also? How liberal is the "stock appearing"? Does it just mean an internal wastegate, or do the turbine housing and compressor scroll need to be modifed OEM?
If I come in with no roll bar and regular seat belts and bust off an 11.50 or faster (example), what's going to happen?
Sorry if this all seems newby-ish, but I had never even heard of the DSM shootout until last week, and I have no idea what to expect rules wise. I did run a Mustang in FFW / NMRA for several years, so I'm not a newby to making a car legal, but I am used to a formal NHRA style tech procedure. I have no idea what to expect and I just need to know, how legal is legal, if that makes sense.
I wish I had heard of this event when I bought the car in March, I would have had a whole lot more time to put something together.
Thanks

It sounds like I have to complete less in the next eight weeks. Perfect. I've been sitting here worried about how the heck I'll build a 6 point roll bar, DS loops, etc, in the time required, without my wife killing me...
One more question. In EX, does a "stock appearing" turbo also mean the OEM O2 housing?
Thanks

You can run an aftermarket o2 housing like the Buschur Racing stainless o2. Don't worry about the cage or ds loop.
